I was riding my DX, and it runs fine, but I get to 3rd about to shift into 4th and I have to reaally floor it to get ithe rpms up quick and then I get into 5th and then It feels like theres no power??? I'd also like to add that the DX is the slowest out of all my trikes. The throttle is messed up, It definately doesn't have the power like my 2 DR's. On occasion I'm riding, and I get a mini "pop"/ backfire from the exhaust? My other 2 don't do that.?? edog, huffa..... HELP!!!!

There could be something wrong with the carb,maybe...could be the transmission.

My big bro said that the trans feels like it's slipping so does my uncle (knows a lot about dirtbikes, atv's) maybe. I went to a shop called Ray C's and they said they'd put brakes on it (no front) I wanna see if they'll fix the tranny.

Check the clutches and friction plates for wear. They will have to be removed to inspect them.

Not quite clear, do you mean the engine revs up but the speed of the trike doesn't increase?
Or does the engine bog?

Yeah, it revs but it takes a veeerrryy long time to get up to top end.

I used to have a 83 225 dx. There was a clutch adjustment on side of the motor, left side(i think) lower end. A nut with an adjustment screw inside it. Unlock nut and turn screw in to adjust clutch. Then retighten nut. Hope this helps. Good luck.

It's weird that in the low gears it work good, if your clutch was worn out, it would slip in all gears, and be most noticable in first.

The clutch ajustment is actually on the right side, you just have to loosen off the locknut, turn that ajuster screw in until you feel resistance, then back it off an 8th turn and put the locknut back on, but be sure you dont change the position of the ajuster screw.

Try that first, its free to do, if that doesnt work, It could be you plates are worn out, you'll have ti take them out and mic them.

Hmmmm, I wouldn't jump all over the clutch till your sure that is the problem. A slipping clutch is best tested on a dry, total traction road. Say for instance (I know you don't have a tach) your always doing 7000 rpm in 4th to go 45mph going up a hill. Does it seem now to go 45 on that same stretch but it takes longer to get there and when you do the engine is at 9.000 rpm?

A clutch that is just starting to slip should show up 1st in the upper gears because it takes more abuse on the plates to keep it going rather then the short 1st and 2nd gears.

You can tell for sure by purposely lugging it in 3rd or 4th and then floor it. If the engine just gradually builds up like normal it is not the clutch, if it revs real quick but you hardly are getting any forward momentum then it is the clutch.

I know others have said sort of the same thing but with different wording but sometimes it's good to "drill" it in to you to make sure thats the problem :beer

Could be a combo of things?? Maybe the clutch and the engine is a bit tired :( with low compression? Check the valve clearence then do a compression test if you have a guage handy.

I might need a little help with that because im 14 and I dont think my dad will be happy with parts laying in the driveway, I dont know anything mechanical about trikes so a diagram would be helpful.
