Finally, after months of talking, we got together for some great trike racing!

Here's a picture Tim forbid me to post.

So, Saturday nights flat-track races got postponed until next week due to rain. I learned a couple things from the one heat we did get in. One was that my little lawn-mower tires rock, and another was that Jason Hall has one fast 250R on a flat track!

I really didn't expect to enjoy the flat track races at all, and was mainly just doing it to participate with the other guys. BUT, guess what? I really enjoyed it! It was seriously fun hanging the R sideways, flat out in 4th gear. Very close racing!

*** Oh, forgot to mention, you never seen so many flashes from camera's until we pitched those trikes sideways on the flat track! Seriously, it was hard to see occasionally because of it. ***

Moto-X was a whole different game today. I can't speak for the rest of the guys but I was seriously anxious to see how it played out. We had 8 riders in trike class and I knew it was going to be great racing.

I can't tell you exactly how everyone finished in the first moto, but I know there was alot of carnage. Virgil and his mighty 426 was off to a great start, banging bars with 3leggeddog for second place while Flyin' Brian pulled ahead in first. Then I remember seeing Virgils bike sitting along the track in a heap of parts.
I gotta say, when I rode past it, I thought it got hit by a hand grenade! Turns out his swinger failed on him and snapped right in two! That, in turn, took out the sub-frame and grab bar, and who knows what else.
About half way thru that moto Pyscho-X blew out his front tire and became a troublesome road block for Tim and I. I will admit, he was holding his own until then.
Sometime after that Charlie, on his 200X, managed to lose a rear wheel. It was certainly a crazy moto.

In the end of that one I ended up getting 3rd, Tim took 4th and Andrew took 5th, then was Sam (I think) in 6th (I didn't catch your last name) and Virgil and Charlie got the DNF.

Second Moto.

Flyin' Brian once again come out on top on the Holeshot. This dude is FAST, let me tell you. It's like the harder you push him, the more amazing he gets. Anyhow, after a rough holeshot and brutal first couple turns I ended up in 2nd place (after some controversial moves). When I realized that, I was haulin' ass. Reminds me of a saying my uncle used to tell me " I can run faseter scared than you can mad!" 3legg ended up in 3rd, Tim 4th, Pyscho crashed, Sam pulled out 5th and Charlie pulled in 6th.

It should be mentioned that 3leggeddog pulled an amazing comeback from last all the way to 3rd. He had to be riding his tail off!

Final tally for MX races:

1st: Flyin' Brian AKA: the hired gun
2nd: Derrick Adams
3rd: 3leggeddog
4th: Tim Sr.
5th: Sam (sure wish I knew your last name)

From there i'm not real sure but here's my guess
6th: Andrew 1 lap down second moto
7th: Charlie with 1 DNF
8th: Virgil with 2 DNF's (Bet that won't happen again)

what a hell of a race, good friends, relitives, and lots of food and racing.i loved it.thanks to everyone that showed, and poop on those who are to good to drive an hour to ride with us.

first moto was fun.i got a good start and stayed pretty consistent.finished second.

the second moto was nuts.someone got me up on two wheels in the first corner and i locked up the brakes and killed the bike.4th gear on a front and rear wheel was not too fun.in my struggle to not get left behind i fired up the bike and dropped the clutch.still in 4th gear i did not make it far, died again.by now i can't see any other riders and i'm p.o., i get er in second fire it up and off we go.with noone in sight i was dishearted, and focused.i should have just wire tied the throttle wide open.i rode the hardest ,fastest 2 1/2 laps i could and with second place one corner away my body was done.i had used up all the super man juice and putted to third.i felt good about the day, everyone went home safe, battered but for the most part in one piece.psychox took a couple hard wrecks today but when you push like this kid it's bound to happen.charlie rode a heck of a race also and even got off to help pyschox push start his trike after a tumble over a double.good job guys.thanks for comin and throwin it down.

Quote 3leggedog: "poop on those who are to good to drive an hour to ride with us."

 You know I would have made it if I could. We'll have to see about next weekend for the flat track races. I'll admit that the 250r scares the hell outta me. Rode it yesterday and all I got to say is WOW. Won't even put her full throttle in first and second.

Sounds like you guys had fun and wish I could have made it. Let's see the pics. Don't keep me waitin.

Wish we could have stayed for the mx guys, sounds like you had some fun. I hope to make it back down next weekend. Maybe we can get more 3-wheelers on the flat track this time (3leggedog & others). What is virgil gunna do about the swingarm? Well I had a good time & learned a few things while I was there. Those guys take there flat track racing serious, & I need different tires on my trx. I have to say that is one sweet banked oval at sunset. :w00t: :beer :Bounce :Bounce :Bounce

Here is a picture of Tim on a holeshot wheelie :w00t:

Check this out! Last week at practice I was talking to some of the track officials at practice and told them we had a bunch of trikes coming to race and they said, "Well, if you guys are coming I guess we better get some 3 wheeler trophys." I said, good luck! Because I know how hard it is. I'll tell you what, in one week they had the tops done and the bottoms ready for us.

(For the record alot of us had talked to them about this before, but just last week did I let them know exactly when we were coming.)

How cool is that!?!?

This is the topper they did for the 2nd thru 5th trophys, the 1st place ones have actual 3 wheeler toppers on them! The owner of the local cycle shop actually donated some of his old trophy toppers to put on our new trophys. These old trophys were from the early eighties, said he had a whole box of them!

You just don't see these plaques anywhere in 2005, I just think that is too cool! Now next year if we manage 4 races down there, we can run in a points race for trikes with HUGE trophys for the points winners at the end of the year. How about that people? Flat track, MX, small bore, big bore, 4 stroke, 2 stroke, what ever we want. If we have 3 riders for each class, they'll do it!

rick from cycle tech gave me a price on a new stock a arm and it was $175!!!! i would like some aftermarket like you said but sets are bout $500. i think me and andrew might just bend it back and weld it up. i just wont really be able to jump it like at galion or anything. also let me know where i can get some cheap honda hubs for the 200 so i can get some nicer wheels and tires for it. its all about the tripod for awhile!!!!!!

I had a great time racing with everyone, and it was super to finally see a group of 8 trikes on a starting gate at some place besides Trikefest! This has been my dream since I started racing mine years ago. Who knows, maybe someday we will see a recognized vintage trike class with a CRA sanction. Hope to see you all on Saturday to finish what we started!

Right now Ive got to inflate my tire so I can race Ashland Fair tomorrow. (Thanks PsychoX!) Im glad you got away from that with no serious injuries!!! Hope to see you all back on the track soon.

i'm gonna run the next race at gailion if anyone else wants to join thats great.not this weekend but the next.i will be in tenn. this weekend with my girl.

virgil why don't we use the stock swinger like derrick did with the 5 hundead?cut it,pull it,weld it and be done.you can still make the tecate carrier work too.

Hey Derrick, just think back in the day thats all the flat trackers seen when they were going around turns.

I know I would feel privilaged to be in that situation and have that feeling all at the same time. it would be glorifying almost.

some day I will get to a flat track event

Im on wmy way out the door. See you guys there for the make up flat track race.

Thanks for the offer on the Turf Tamers, Derrick. I think Im covered, but if we learned nothing else last weekend, its always a good idea to bring some spare tires along anyways!

I had an axle puncture in my tire from Psycho landing on me in the MX, but the plug is holding up just fine! Hope you make it back again soon, Andrew, so we can try this again! LOL! You show a lot of promise as a top notch racer.
