..........a aluminumm framed CRF 450. Makes me wonder if it be worth more being a trike then what it is now? Only worth about 2500-3000 or so.
I guess it's beyond my no how though :(

I say do it. Back in the 80's we had tons of conversions. Since there is the Fourtrax 450 you can use the rear fenders, swinger ect.
Best of luck...would be awesome!

  Oh my god, that looks fantastic
I realize it is a photo chop job but that is probably how a 05 3 wheeler would look if they were still made. My idea could become reality!! A 55 horse power machine that most likely weighs the same or darn close to a 250 R.
I just can't say enough how I like the looks of that. Absolutly killler.

You could definetly do it, but its not quite as simple as just cutting the dirtbike and quad frames in half and welding them together. THe trx450R frame is steel, and the CRF one is obviously aluminum. Now, if you made the half portion of the frame from the trx in aluminum and then welded it to the other half of the crf frame like in the picture, It might work. BUT, theres so much stuff to take into account. Ride height, suspension travel and ground clearence have to be in sync, balance, comfort when riding, ect. ect. That right there, is like my dream trike. Heh.

For me that would be the ultimate 3-wheeler. I would like to put a CRF motor in a 350X, yeah you loose the aluminum frame and suspension but that would be a lot more realistic for me anyway. The 06 TRX450R is suposed to have a nearly identical motor to the CRF now, can't wait to get one!

I think you are in the minority if you would take a Raptor over a 450. I bet that CRF has nearly 20 horsepower more than a 660.

like I said it just looks better to me than the 450 does. as for power the 660 was never design to make maximum horsepower, it was design for maximum torque.
and now with the new raptor 700R, it would nothin at all to gain that 20 horses back and make gobs more torque than that 450 ever dreamed about making, and think the 700 wouldnt even be modded to the extreme either.

ive seen a stock 700r race a trx450 not sure of what mods on the trx though and they were neck and neck with the 700 pulling away just at the end. pretty close from start to finish. and i heard the 700r's rider say he traded his 660 for that one and that the new 700r felt like it had less torque but accelerated about as fast as his buddies yz450. not sure how that is but i know what i saw.

Naaaah on the Yammie, it's cool and everything but I'm into the aluminum frames and I love the fact that you never have to paint them. If you take care of those frames and polish them (I did mine) they look better then new and they never age! Don't take care of them and they will look aged and dull quite quick but even then you can still bring them back to life.
The 660 looks so conjested to me in the engine area where the Honda looks nice and clean. 660 also looks tankish too. Honda looks way lighter.
I'd rather have a smaller motor and less weight too. The Honda wins in the looks catagory for sure, to my eyes anyway.
I'm not capable of such a project BUT if someone is that lives close by (a few 100 miles  ) and has the know how to figure it all out I'd give it some serious thought. A few 100 miles isn't too far to go when you consider you'll have the only trike like that on planet earth, possibly anyway.
I certainly don't have the $$ now but I do have the bike now! :naughty:
I'd leave the graphics as is and use white fenders from a 350X or something. Maybe a whole 350X with a blown motor would be a good trike to buy for this project and use the swing arm and front end too?

If you convert something like that you have to go all the way. None of this 350x stuff.

YES SIR!!!
You know you could have a swingarm made to use your exsisting shock and linkage. It could easily be made to except the rear end of your choice (250r and 400ex parts are real easy to get).
