hi. i have a 1981 honda 185s my timing chain recently went out and i got a replacement timing chain from the dealer well i dont really know what im doing so i just unbolted everything that i thought had to be un done i read a few threads on the timing marks but were very confusing my problem right now is i dont know the proper steps on reinstalling the timing chain and i cant seem to get the bottom end timing mark to line up with the cam timing marks from what i understand the bottom timing mark "T" has to be lined up with arrow on the crank case but it always lines up with the "F"mark instead......
any steps would be great ive been on this thing for 3 days straight its starting to get frustrating and what do i do if it dosent start after i get it back together correctly i read somthing about a pulsar in the cdi compartment what is that.
Thanks for any help cliff....

You mean if you hold it on the T and let go, it rotates on it's own to the F or the F mark is exactly where the cam sprocket is lining up with its mark? If it is lined up almost perfect with F mark then you are off by one tooth when you reinstalled the chain.
The cam mark sometimes won't line up exactly dead on, as I have run into this a few times. Install the chain one tooth farther to see if it goes closer if your not spot on and if it goes passed it by quite a bit then go back to your original setting.
The best solution is to 1st get a manual before you attempt any thing like that.
.............and please take the time to start using periods, ect, ect. Not using them I find very frustrating as everything just rolls into one big sentence.

Ok if you take out the spark plug its easier to get that timing mark to not keep going past the mark on the case it really doesnt matter if you turn the crank over 180 deg on this just as long as you have the rotor for the spark firing it when the intake side just closed up then you will be ok (GASP) its real easy it may not line up exactly t mark and the little circle on the camshaft but it will work just dont let that chain fall or it will probably jam up the crankshaft and you will end up taking every thing apart again to dig it out of the case :banned: (GASP)

I also recommend you to get a manual for your model. Its much easier with fewer problems.
