85 Honda 350X Carb Problem

My 350X just doesn't accelerate very well. It idles fine, and when it gets up to speed, it is fine. But when I try to take off quickly with about 1/2 throttle, it just wants to die. I have to work the throttle back and forth quickly in order to get any kind of RPMs going without killing it. I took off the carb and cleaned it , the air filter as well. I have looked in the forum, and I am going to get a unifilter to put on it, but I don't think this will cure the problem. Anybody expereinced the same problem? Any ideas on how to fix it? There is probably a vacuum leak at the O-ring between the cyl. head and the manifold or there is a split in the rubber manifold itself. I found both to be true on my 350x and once I replaced it, the drivability issues disappeared completely. These rubber parts often get old and brittle after 20+ years of service, so it's quite common.

Do you mean numbers 11 & 31 between the carb and the cyl from this pic? And can you normally feel or see the airleak when the engine is running? I did a quick inspection and didn't notice anything, but I can pull it off and take a better look using some water etc...

11 and 31 is what I'm talking about and you'll have to remove it to inspect it close-up properly, as it's really easy to miss just simply looking at it already installed on the engine. That's how I found the air leak on my engine...

Spray some starting fluid around the area you think has a air leak while it is running. If your revs increase then you know were the air leak is. If your revs don't increase then probobly there is something else going on. Also set the idle at a higher rpm to simulate a riding rpm. Let me know if this worked.
