Soooooooooooooooooooooo
well i found an 86 200x for 400 dollars
but now that i look at it, it needs new bearings, all new plastic, new tank, new exaust, i cant tell if the motor needs work because of the exaust, th exaust pins are broke off and it cant be mounted so it might need a new head, it needs new handle bars..................................
all this plus more if i would think about it
He wants 400
I MIGHT pay 200 for this
what do all you think
Good parts machine,or.... you can restore it.$100 is what i would offer. It would be a better parts machine they are seaming to be harder to come by.

edog is right parts are a pain in the ass to find for the 86/86 X's you would be better saving up more and buying a complete one or just getting the first gen X lots of parts around for those i have an 84 and its a blast in the trails a lil bit underpowerd for the dunes but you can still get around

ok so basically you'll have like $1000-$1500 in it if it needs everything you said. You make the choice

well yeah i do want the 86 version if i get any trike. unless i somehow find a 350x in ohio or maybe i might get a liguid 250r but for that cash id prolly get a quad(sorry i said it)
plus about the exhaust screw things that are broke off, what would i do about that
does anyone know where there is a 200x,250r,350x,tri-z,250sx in ohio?
im gonna offer 200 dollars

I wouldn't pay that much. The 1st gen 200x's are better imo.

I agree, and this is not just because i have one. There is so much afyermarket for them.

The studs in my 185S spin right out. They are replaceable in my machine, but am not sure about that one. You know you've got a tank ready :) Plastics can be found, either using aftermarket companies or doing dealer searches for NOS stuff... I think I would replace the bearings in an older machine regardless, just because any help with friction is a huge help dealing with low horsepower applications... a nice pair of Renthal bars aren't too expensive, $50 or so, or you could find used bars... It all depends on whether it will run or not. I would suggest offering $2-300 unless he can prove it runs... I like the restoration projects rather than throwing stuff out, just because every trike should be saved if possible, since they are no longer being made... I feel the same about VWs too...

I'd much rather have the 86-7 model and did have two 86's. It's a much better thought out machine all around. You can still get after market parts for those.
I'm not sure what parts you guys mean you can't get for 86-7?

id like to know what makes them so much better im sure they have an advantage somewhere but other than the extra gear and more agressive appearance what else does it have over the first model. is suspension far superior? engine way more powerful? what is it about the 86/87 ??? i have an 84 and was considering the 87 model i saw for sale but will i notice that much of a difference

I only know a little bit about them, so someone else please chime in... I know that a lot of parts were different, and that they are more rare. They are a 6 speed, and the frame is a box section design which is supposed to be stiffer than the previous models. The triple clamp offset is different, and I believe the rake/trail numbers are also different (partially due to the triple clamps being different). That's all I can offer for now...

arent the front ends on the '86-'87 the same as the 350x?
deathman53
10-12-2005, 06:57 PM
I'm told its quite different, motor is abit more peppy, 6th gear is the big one and rear suspension is abit better.also the 86 has less rake than a 83-85, the 86 is also wider stock.

I too would only buy the '86 model, because I love the look, and it's more rare... That's just me being different...

The frame like said is boxed instead of tubular which is far stronger. The air box is larger, the swing arm has the chain adjustment system in rear that you simply loosen two pinch bolts and turn the cam and I'm sure there are more.
The swingarm below is on my 92 250 X 4 wheeler but the 86 is laid out the same way. Just stick a allen wrench in the slots on left, rotate it one way and your done! No messing around going side to side like on the "old" one.

Hey cragster, keep an eye on the 86 that is on ebay now. It has one day to go and is at $560. Did not hit reserve yet though. That should go above a 1000 is my guess.

yeah prolly
michigan is pretty close to me 2 ya know
well i went to his house again but he wasnt home
It needs a lot lot lot of stuff. I dont have the money to do a full restore but if i get this then itll prolly be a full restore
the engine runs. it has a weisco piston in it. But the exhaust cant be hooked up cuz the bolts are broke put and i cant drive it cuz the chain its bad shape!:( I lovvvvvve the suspension on it though! Im going back up to his house this week or weekend!
soooo what you guys think

I think like I mentioned already... take $250 cash and say look bro, you can't even prove it runs well... and tell him who knows what else it needs.... I personally would take an itemized list of everything you KNOW it needs, and the Ebay prices for those parts beside each one, and then have him knock off that amount of money, just like at a car dealership man.... If the list totals $400 in parts that it needs, then he should give it to you free...!! Just kidding about the last part... BUT, the more horrific you make it sound to him, the lower he will go, because he will see evidence that you are not BS-ing... and most likely it's just going to sit there for him anyway... believe me, another deal will come along... Don't get emotional about it, use LOGIC or you will get burned....

Hmmmm, those are only the things you know of and a trike in that shape always has hidden surprises.
I'd stay away from it and venture on to something a bit healthier even if he would come down in price.

10-12-2005, 09:16 PM
you think sooo
but i really want one like it and i cant seem to find any other ones let alone a good one

10-12-2005, 09:47 PM
I agree with Huffa on this one. Sorry but my 200x is starting to become a trike thats pretty but wont run. I think my whole everythnig is blown even though i replaced most of it. Especially with 200x's, these suckers empty pockets very fast.

10-12-2005, 10:04 PM
sounds like a basketcase id stay away from it. sounds like even if you get the trike cheap the parts are gonna end up being scarse and costly. and you will end up putting more cash into than if you just found one in better shape.

Hey Cragster
For a start on looking for a better one, if you are going to do that, why don't you add to........... I have a TRX200SX for sale for $900!

Wanted - 86-87 200X in Ohio area Don't put a price range though because if you say a high of 500 or so the person may only want 400 but shoot for 5 since your willing to go that high. Best to not put a price in at all but minor details of what your looking for in a X might help.
In the mean time I'll keep on the lookout for a better X for you. One will come along, you'll see! :beer

Hey man its all cool. Ive got a buddy with an 86 200x who just took it down to the frame and repainted EVERYTHING. This thing runs great too. He was hangin with a 250r and tri-z at one of our last motocross races. Ill ask him what it would take for him to get rid of it.

Nevermind, its not for sale. I just traded him straight up mine for his! He said he wanted something more original that would be a more reliable trail bike and i wanted something faster. Well that makes my day!

Someone asked about woolyboogers , I highly recommend Kenda Dirt Dogs, available from denniskirk.com and free shipping! They have great forward bite and break loose well when you throw them sideways.
As to the 83-85 vs 86-87, I like the 86-87 because they are usually in much better shape. I'm not into modding it, I like them quiet and reliable, that way I can ride the more places. But I'm an old dude. My 87's feel like they have electric motors, so smooth, and that extra gear makes a big difference. When riding fast, he engine revs like it is going to blow on the 83-85's on the 86-87's they just hum.

hmmmm well i dont know
If i get brapp's and i still got some oney left over i might still get thid one
i meen at least if i do this restore it would be worth it. Like like a say 200s lol.
What parts arnt available for this trike anyway. I see all the same stuff form the 85's at D-K.
You can still get a cobra exhaust and a dg too. They have the pistons and rings and all that good junk. Ebay has parts too. Welllllll anyyways i dont know. Also would 1100 be too much to pay for an 86 all modded just needs a seat(cover) and rear fender. I might be trading for that aswell

10-13-2005, 05:48 PM
lol im getting an 86 200x from brapp. Im also chances are gonna buy this one that needs all the work for parts or restore. then once i get even more money i can buy that 225dx in perfect shape.
