Ok this is my problem. I can get on this site and post threads and responses , it appears my emails are coming through but many other things including my homepage wont open and Ebay wont open for me either. I have several auctions going on  , no paypal either  . I go to service honda and their site opens???.

Why is this happening .....selective opening ???. I ran spyware doctor and it came up with nothing. Nortons running right now (Takes way to long and have never had success with there product), I tried downloading Mozilla to try that to see if it was something with internet explorer ...No go. Talked to tech support this morning and got no where He seemed to think my internet was fine and its something with the computer.

What does your browser display when you can't access a page? Page not found, no page to display, etc....

In explorer.

Click on " Tools " and then " Internet Options " clear out your Temp files and Cookies.

Then go to the security tab and reset all the zones to their default values. Do the same with the " Advanced " Tab.. restore defaults on everything.

hit " Apply " and ok.. try again.

Good question..

also.. have you installed any " Anti- Popup " software ? turn off the Explorer popu blocker under " Tools " .

Make sure your anti-virus definitions are up to date.

Who is your provider ?

Could also be a problem with your browser security.. click on " Help " and " About Internet Eplorer " .. do you have 128 bit encryption showing ? ( you should.. but check anyways .. )

I have simular problems on the shop computer. I can visit ebay.com but I can't sign in to My Ebay. I can't log into Paypal and a few other sites. But I can get onto 3WW and the forums.
I'm probably taking it into my computer guy tomorrow and see what he can figure out.

It shows page not found... I have a local provider frontiernet.net. Norton is still running and slowing everthing down. I ''ll go try the above but I think I cleared my cookies this morning when I was having trouble..I'll go set everything to default now.

I have this problem weekly and this seems to cure it about 95% of the time

Go into the control panel and click on " Add Remove Programs " and look for things you never installed and don't use... " Dashbar " " Gator " or " search assistant " any crap like that... remove it.

if you call up your provider, mind you .. they usually can't do nothing, but ask if they have had similar problems reported.

DNS Domain Name Server.. routing problem.

ever try a ping before ?

Click " Start " " Run" type in " Cmd " or sometimes " Command " and at the c:\ prompt type

c:\ping www.ebay.com

and see if you get a timeout.

Hey... are you going thru a router ? If you are.. unplug the router and run the feed directly to your system...

They did a ping with me this morning. They said ebay didnt ping for them. But the homepage did when they were running tests. No router here. It flashes so quickly but when The homepage tries to load I quickly see the bottom

connecting to site ###########

Then this ............window32system32dnserror d//shockerr

Not exactly that but thats whats popping up...And thanks :beer for trying to help me through this. Its been several hours of frustration I may try to download more fixes in a while the free ones didnt work.

start>acessories>command prompt:

tracert www.ebay.com

and then when thats done type "netstat" that shows all in and out bound connections on your computer, if theres a boat load in the list theres maybe some spyware or something on there killing your bandwidth. You can also run netstat while your trying to load ebay or another problematic site.

Well .. at this point i'm kinda out of ideas...

it's either your system is infected with spyware/adware

or

your provider has DNS problems... if it's your provider causing the problem, these things usually fix themselves over time, but it's anoying to have to wait it out.. and sometimes costly ( with auctions going ) .. but the help desk can only do so much on the phones for you... They buy bandwidth from higher up Bell / ATT etc.... and have no control over certain things that just sort themselves out over resets and refreshes..

( Can you tell i work at a helpdesk !! )

I also did the tracer ebay and I got the request timed out like 10 times.....and subsequently cant get to the microsoft update site to download things to try to fix it. Man after 4 hours the pure fact that this computer is still sitting on the desk in one piece is a miracle.... I am about to give up.

Check on the bottom right hand side of your screen to see if you have " Windows Auto Update " downloading a big file.. like SP2 or something....

You might also want to try going into your control panel and turning off auto-update if you have it ON... it would be trying to reach microsoft and causing problems......

You got a legit copy of XP ?

This may sound totally stupid.. but what the heck.

Right-click on your desktop and go into properties.... what do you have your resolution set at and color depth ? 16 or 32 bit ? etc...

Leave it on 16 bit..

This an old hunk-o-junk or a fairly new PC ?

Have you released and renewed your IP ?

Does your modem have a reset pinhole thing at the back ?

Well.. at least if you can plug in another PC into that Lan line you will know if it's the provider or the machine by deduction.

Let us know .. i'm curious to find out.
