View Full Version : 4 stroke 200 auto motor that upshifts?

i put a 200cc 4 stroke automatic motor out of a 84 200s that i bought for parts into the 200x that i was given a couple weeks ago....got it in and running last nite,but when i took it for a test spin down the street,i noticed something very strange to me....the shift pattern is ALL UP!!!!! i have owned more than my share of auto 4 strokes and NONE of them shifted that way...all of them were down shifting pattterns,with the exception of my 200x`s which were 1 down-4 up patterns,but this isn`t an X motor........?

anybody know of any that were that pattern?

i don`t know squat about this motor...could someone have taken the motor apart before i got it and possibly replaced something in the tranny backwards?......thus causing a reversed shift pattern? :wondering

the 84 200s motors were 5 down...neutral all teh way up, 5th all the way down...my 85 200s is a 5 up pattern....glad honda changed that

the 200m's also where a up shift, the 85's up where all up i think.

My 85 200es was all up.

I think its better like that.

I have an 84 200m, all the shifts were down, neutral was all the way up.

85 200s and 85 200m where all up!

Both my 200s and the YTM 200 are all up.

85 250sx are all up. reverse is all way down in nuetral than pull lever and push down one more.

thanx for all the replies.........guess i never ran across that cuz i never had anything newer than `84 models with the exception of my R`s.......

Yeah, its normal, nothing to worry about. I like the down shift motors better myself. Its gets a little confusing but when you are racing its alot faster shift time
