this is the third time at the last minute i've been outbid. the two previous times i had high bid 2150.00 once and 2450.00 the other on NICE 250R's. i was outbid in the last minute or so on both. so today i waited 'til there were 2 minutes left and i bid 150.99 higher to see if it would work for me. nope, with 20 seconds left "mr. hungwell went 51.99 higher than me.
is there some kind of secret i need to learn? i'm sorta new to e-bay.
thanks, elliot

yeah... you don't bid with 2 minutes left but more like with 2 seconds left. I do all the bidding myself, but some people use a "snipe" program or service that will automatically bid for you right at the end of the auction.
I feel your pain... I've been "sniped" by the SAME person on THIS board the last 3 ATC auctions I had to bid on early because I wouldn't be home when the auction ends. At least the last auction, he got out bid 2 seconds after he sniped my bid. No Big Red speedo w/ mounting kit for him! :welcome:

Another way of looking at it ,,, like I do and problly most bidders REALLY do is to bid the max you WILL pay for that item.
If you really want that part ,,, what the hell you thinking ??? Do you want to get it for 1 penny less then the other bidder ??? ( you don't REALLY want that part then - grudge bid or what ever you do, or not, want to call it)
I have got to think that the vast majority of the population sets a limit on what they will spend on a part ,,, and factor in the shipping of that part.
I can also name sevral board members who I have been out bid on auction sites. Disappointed - yes. Whacked my budget out of shape - certanly NOT. Talked to them and done favors for afterwards , heck yeah. I just wasn't gonna pay any more then the set limit I was wanting to spend.
Lord only knows what bidders max is ,,,, I am sure if anybody was to put sevral thousand dollar max bids on the trike parts we all seek,,, they most probbly will win the bids ( and be some sorry souls for winning ).
If you put the max you want to spend on a part ( plus shipping ) and loose,, what is the crying about ?
The 24 hour rule should be applied more also imo ,, wait 24 hours then bid.
I finally got it thru to my wife that spending more on something she needs is a heck of a lot better then getting a really good deal on something she don't need (it cut that yard sale crap down alot for sure )

Yep, I sniped John on a set of ATC Playing Cards. After the auction he told me "I was buying them to send to you". I could have crawled under a rock, but it was all in good Ebaying. ;)
I also have been out sniped many times, I have also sniped others many of times. I just put in my MAX I am willing to go ( via a snipe program ) and forget about it. Then when it's ending time I either win it or I don't. If I lose a auction I bid on it wasn't because I bid too low, It was because someone else was willing to pay more than me. I do not lose sleep over a auction lost.
Also, since I started using a snipe program I have kept a few people from knowing what I am bidding on until it's too late. I had one ebayer who was trying to jack up all the auctions I was bidding on. Sniping totally took care of that. lol

yeah, I think I may have had a few auctions jacked up on me too. I've seen a few things get pushed up higher than I wanted to pay and then see them relisted because of deadbeat ebayer. so sometimes, if I did'nt already get what I was lookig for somewhere else, I end up getting it anyway. Sometimes at a lower bid.

Secret:
At 3-5 minutes left I have two windows open to Ebay. One window has the auction, which I keep refreshing about every ten seconds to check status and keep a rythm going. The second window is on my confirm bid screen. You have to be sure that you are logged in also, or it will take extra time to confirm your bid. With about thirteen seconds left I will confirm my bid and then watch what it says on the next screen. If it says congrats, then you usually are good, but you have to at least refresh the other screen once. Usually with about thirteen seconds left you have another chance to throw one more in quickly if you need to. Believe me, I've won things in the last two seconds before! In the last few seconds though I only try to increment up in small measures. If you throw something crazy up there like $1k over where it is at, then the other guy may have done the same... then yer screwed. I think I have lost ~3 auctions in the last couple years using this method... all the others I was just willing to push more than the other person. Ebay is like a chance game at a casino. The fun isn't just in getting the same part you could buy at a flat rate somewhere else... the fun part is knowing that you have conquered all other comers.... James

Its funny that someone would complain about being sniped by another board member. I would rather be sniped by a board member than some other toothless predator. Snipe or be sniped! I agree with Jes, last second bids are always the maximum you, the sniper, and 100 or more others are willing to go. The last 20 seconds is the ride I like best. By the way I didn't really want another ATC speedo in kmh anyway. :welcome:
