200X front end on 85R... Will it work?

I was thinking that a 200X front end would be real good on an R set up for flat track. Shorter forks to start with and then slid up in the triples a little would get that front end right down on the tire. Also was wondering if a 200X rear shock would fit. That would certainly slam that back end down.

Anyone know if it will fit?

I kinda had this idea for my 500R to start with to keep the costs down and keep the front end low. I'm pretty sure you could if you changed the stem out. Probably also have to weld in some new frame stops. Not a major task.

Yupp, I remember seeing a 200X on here with `85 R forks. 500cc motor in the same plans as the 200X forks?

there is really nothing wrong with the 85R. they are trailing axle fork design as the 350X's were leading axle fork design. the leading axle puts the front wheel out a little further and when combine with a shortend ride height in the rear it rakes the front of the bike out allowing it to set a lot easier in the turns and not be real twitchy. it also helps on the straight aways for high speed stability.

I believe the 250r stem is actually smaller than the 200x stem. I know when Kevin and I put a 250r front end on his 200x we had to bore out the 250r tripples a bit. So youd have to intall a shim in the 200x tripples to put the 250r stem in.

derrick the forks are different diameters. mabey if you swapped the tripples also it might work. as for the rear shock it could work but would require some mods to the the lower mount. 1)drilling the hole for the larger bolt. 2) filing the sides flat to fit between the strut fork. the bottom fingers on the x are kinda half mooned. where the rs are flat fingerd. this will shorten it by about 2 inches. i know all this because ive had serious shock issues with my 84r. and ive experimented with 86r/84r/200x rear shock. still cant find a rear good shock. wtf!!!:wondering . anyone want to buy it:lol: no seriously:beer

i have the 200x shock still if you want it. its almost done and ready to be mounted. just alittle more filing on the sides to make it fit.. let me know i will send it home with brandon.

Well, from what i'm reading I might just as well use the Tri-Z for flat track duty. Since it has alot more rake from the factory it should work better for that type of racing. Now if I can just find some shorter forks for it, i'll be in business. Also some extra large radiator scoops to keep it cool!

I'm wondering if a front end off a machine like a KLT160-185 would work here. You wouldn't have quite the suspension, but you would have some and it would set your front end down. ;)
