I was looking at atc brochures and was wondering if the honda atc125m with flat 110 style engine had reverse. I thought it did but it looks like in '86 they changed the engine to upright style and added the reverse. Does anybody know if that is correct? Thanks

84-85 125m's didn't have reverse. They added reverse in the 86-87 models.

I'd also like to point out that...........

I'm not sure if it is my imagination but the 86-87 seems to have maybe about 15-20% more power then the horizontal engine. Maybe it's because of the extra gear, maybe not, but I remember when I rode my 84 that it was mostly in low range because in high once I hit 3rd & 4th it just couldn't seem to pull it all that great with my 190lb weight.

The 87 seems to pull just fine in every gear and doesn't really need the low-high range.

It's all in the engine design ( IMO ). But there is a power difference. If you want more power put a 200x head and cam on your 86-87 125m. it does make some difference.

 A 200 x head will bolt right on?

Oh baby, I have a 82 200 Big Red motor. The whole top end of that should work too then, correct? What about the carb though? I assume the 125 is a bit smaller? Could you just rejet the 125 carb or will the 200 carb fit on to the intake manifold of motor and adapt to the air box tube as well?

Not that I would do all this but it's nice to know I have options like that!

Thanks!!! :beer

If it does bolt right on it still might not work unless the stroke is the same. If it is it should but dought it is.

I was asking to upgrade atc110 to have reverse. I dont know why but I really love the horizontal engines with H/L range. I been looking around the net and think that the four wheeler trx125 horizontal has reverse but I dont think it has the high/low range. I know 110 will fit in trx125 because i have done it before.

The 185-200 heads will bolt right up. If you wish to use the 125m cover for the cam end you will need to modify the cam. Another option is to use the CDI mount / cover off the 185-200. This requires no modification to the cam, but I think it kills the looks of the motor.

The cylinders won't innerchange though, the 86-87 125m has the chain tensioner mounted on the jug, while the 185-200 cam chian tensioner is on / in the center cases. But I'm working on modifying a 185 cylinder for this. I will test this engine out in the wrecker if and when I get it done.

Now thats cool. but can a 125 transmision and crank handle 185-200ccs of force? if it can i may toy with my 110 a little!

A 110 is completely different than a the 86-87 125m or 185-200's. But the tranny should be able to handle some increase in power.

Off topic: Somekindofjerk are you going for the daily post record? 36 post in 14 hours! You really need to ride more. hehe

No, im just stuck inside with nothing to do! the 110 might really get a makeover though! probably just next size up to 125(for hope that there will be little fabrication)!

OK, noob question regarding the gearbox. My toy is a 1985 ATC110 with high/low box. Above the H/L selector there is a spindle coming out of the case, like a shift shaft end, and what appears to be "N" cast into the case next to it. There's nothing connected to this at the moment although when you go through the gears it appears to turn anticlockwise going up & clockwise going down through the box.

What would this originally have been for???

Cheers, Dan. trailpro

EDIT-: Oh, one more thing. From what I'm reading if I'm getting the odd false neutral & sometimes popping out of gear it's most likely gonna be the shift stopper bent or cracked, either that or worn spring right?

That's the neutral indicator. There should be a little white cap with an arrow on it that will point to the N when you are in neutral.

My gosh, Honda thought of everything with these machines, didn't they! Oh well, out with the white paint later then lol...
