A few quick pics of the Hi-Performance Atc aftermarket frame I found with the Yamaha r5 engine in it. The R5 is the 2-cylinder 2-stroke engine they made before the rd350. This engine has no reed cages and it is known as piston ported. This frame will also take an rd350 or rd400 or any of that family of engines. It had no rear wheels or tank or fenders when I picked it up for $200. The rear axle is hollow. The rear disc brake is actually a front disc for and rd350. I'm looking to get a running bike to transplant the engine and could possibly make this street legal with a titled bike.

verry interesting trike, and no the r5 motor isnt the fastest motor of the twin 2 strokes, the r5 being piston port makes it load up alot easier, and takes forever to build decent rpms, but onc eit hits that magical powerband hold on!, i am going to be buildign a 200s with a suzuki ts600 twin 2 stroke sooner or later, so well se ehow it turns out.

triples look like Nicholsons...check my 110 project on the restoration page...that frame looks very similar to it..
Nice snag. That motor is kick ass.

that looks pretty cool. is it just me or is that rear axle real skinny. It may be the picture but it doesn;t look to be super stable.

The rear axle seems about the same width as a stock 185s axle. The wild part is the axle is hollow. A buddy of mine who's an engineer says a hollow pipe is stronger than the same size solid pipe. Something thas has to do with having 2 walls or 2 sides as opposed to 1 solid piece. There is a sticker on the front triple trees that says "High Performance ATC" and has their address and telephone number. The company might have sold Nicholson frames, I don't know. I have seen their ads in several old 3wheeling magazines, but they didn't mention Nicholson frames. The r5 engine that is on the bike seems to have decent compression and is not locked up, as I put some oil down the spark plug holes and turned it over with the kicker. The electrics are pretty butchered up and look to be a nightmare to fix. I would like to find a complete running rd350 to put in the frame and hopefully find some DG Gold heads for it. I think the pipes I have are DG pipes, but they need cleaned up. It should be pretty wild when it is done. If anybody knows someone selling a running RD350 somewhere within 200 miles or so of Baltimore, MD., let me know 'cause I'm in the market for one.

I purchased a titled 1974 rd350 today that will be giving up its' engine to the aftermarket frame. Since it is a titled bike, I wonder what will it take to make it street legal. The donor bike runs and has all the turn signals, horn, lights etc. This could be the trike to go street legal. How crazy should I get? Just get it running oldschool, or try and make it street legal????
