Check Oil Help Needed

I'm sure this sounds dumb, but where do you check the oil on a '85 Honda 200es Big Red?

there should be an oil dipstick on the right hand side. Unscrew it, wipe it off, and put the dipstick back in the motor, but dont screw it in, pull it out and the oil should be in the cross-hatch.
