My 200.00 dollar R thats been in a barn since 89 has no spark theres no water or corrosion in mag housing I figured I would ask trailprotrailpro fooling with it, its a relativly brand new trike.

yeah good luck. pretty much have to make a list of all electrical possibilities and start doing em one by one. ground, plug wire, stator, switch, wire connections :D ..............

Do you have access to another R? The easiest way to troubleshoot the problem is to take your coil, and CDI and try them on a running R. If they both work, the it is probably the stator.
Just to ask the obvious, did you try a new plug? I have seen more spark problems fixed by a new plug than anything else.

Yeah I have new plug grounded so I can see it ,its been sitting for many years, its basically a brand new bike I took cover off flywheel and stator are perfect . Without pulling off a bunch of stuff does anyone know if the coil has a seperate ground.

Well, you didn't say what year it is but if it is an 85-86 then no, there is no extra ground for the coil. I have not seen any coils go bad but I have seen a few stators give up. Do you have any service manual on the machine? You can unplug the wire going to the stock kill switch (i believe black w/white stripe) to eliminate the switch as a possible problem. Also, the coil from another bike/trike/quad should work. My friend had no spark on his TRX250r and I let him borrow a spare 350X coil I have and although the coil was not the problem he left the X one on and the quad ran fine with it. If all else fails you can go to a PVL or an Eddie Sanders CR igntion (assuming you have an 85-86) but you'll lose your headlight.

Yeah its an 85 so you say if I diconnect kill switch its like having it on or is it like having it off and what is the best way to test a stator thanks in advance

If you disconnect it that is like having it set to run. As for testign the stator you really need to go out and spend a few bucks on the Clymer book for that machine. Testing the stator involves doing an ohm test but keep in mind it is not 100% accurate.

Thanks for the help I'll post pics for everyone soon this thing is like it came off the assembly line.

on my 200es. Don't believe everything the Clymer manual says, even if the part tests ok with an ohmeter, the part being tested is not being stressed like in real life situations. I've been told that if all tests are ok and you still have no or weak spark the first thing to do is go after is the ignition coil in the stator.......but do what you think is best

That's why I said the ohm test is not 100% accurate but I agree if it wont go start by having the ignition stator rewound, it should be about $75.00.

I remember reading on this web, some guy in the states was winding these things for a reasonable fee and posting them back and forth. Can't seem to find that page back, anybody have any ideas??

Stator Corp. did the one on my Tecate 3 years ago and it is still working well. They are located in Mass. and there number is (508) 478-0976. Keep in mind that was 3 years ago, they may have moved or changed their number since then.

I'll try give them a call.......a local shop here has a jobber coil here that says its for a 200 or a 200S, any idea if thats the same one as the one I need for my 200es??

If the wire reaches the plug it should work. Like I said, that 350x coil worked fine in a pretty worked TRX250r.
