Gas mileage question

Me and a buddy took out both my R's. I filled them both up before we left, we got back the one with the pipe was just about empty, and the other had half a tank. Ive never been in either motors, but from what I was told the one was stock with a pipe, and the other was 20 over. Both have stock carbs, reeds, gearing, ect. Why so much more gas????

OK yeah it usally works like that but, read my post again. Its the one with the stock piston burning more.

Anyways a 20 over piston is gonna burn maybe 1/32 of a gallon more.

It depends really. Evidently you guys rode together, but when one of you came to an obstacle, did you gas it an ride over/around it fast, or put put around it? When you came to a mudhole, did you full throttle through it, or did you just kinda ease through it? If you kept going through the mudhole, or kept going over/around obstacles like that, theres your difference.

When we go to the dry river here, and If I stay on the pipe alot (Like 99.9% of the time the way I like to ride) I can burn a full tank in 2 1/2 hours on my R. I'm of course the only one on a pinger, and I like to go just as fast as I can. Its pretty much a rider thing. I bet next time you guys switch bikes and ride it'll happen with the one thats bored .020 over.

oops :oops: I knew that. HondaATC is right...It depends on how much throttle you use over a period of time. Jetting differences might also hurt the mileage.

Switch riders and do the same experiment and Ill bet the gas consumption rates follow the rider. Things like jetting and boring make such a small difference that they are barely even relevant.

maybe the other R got thirsty, and drank some of the other trikes gas, just kidding. lol lol lol lol
