I need some help here guys---I met up with this guy today - He showed me something that blew my mind. He had a 90 or 91 Blaster in his garage with a big crack-(Or should I say GASH) in the rear plastic. He mixed up some stuff , smeared it on --wet sanded it , And You CAnt see it!!!!! -I was shocked . he flipped the plastic over, did the same on the underside and I swear--You cant see it! A color match program for a windows PC - He matched the color -and dyed the filler- Sorta like a "Paintless " dent repair, only on his plastics. I asked him if he did this stuff alot--he says he only does it for his own stuff. I told him I would run it past the guys on the message board I hang out on- Anybody Interested? Give this shmutz a shot in the head and make him realize he has a beneficial talent?

I dont know- Ive never seen "Color-Matched " bodyfiller before today. Body shops do it all the time with paint-but Ive never seen it done with filler before.

Use the search option and look for "Restoring old plastics"

I saw in the Rocky Mountain catalog that they now make a plastic welding kit. It consists of what looks like a soldering iron and a piece of clear plastic tubing. It claims that you "weld" the crack with this tube and it automatically turns the color of whatever you are "welding". I am curious to find out if anyone has used this ? And does it actually work? It seems to me that it should work ,but I guess I wont know for sure until I or someone else tries it.

About 10 years ago I used to be a painter and was ASE certified in plastic repair for bumper covers and plastic panels. We used the same plastic welder you are probably looking at. Its very easy to learn, you just need to know which fillers to use with each plastic. Most plastics are marked somehow/ somewhere which type they are and the welder kit should give you instructions on how to determin which is which. Its definatly a nice tool to have around. I've still got my ASE books if you want any information from them.
