Howdy everybody - I wouldnt be asking this, but the closest shop is 300 miles away and there isnt a road going to it. and shipping is 6.00 from dennis kirk so i want to get this right the first time. My buddys 350x has a dg xccelerator silencer and stock filter w/ lid. The elevation is sea level and (if this helps at all) the temperature ranges from -20 - +30 throughout the winter. I figure a 142 or 145 but I need some professional help. Thanks in advance- jake.

For that temp I would say the 145 is what you need, maybe 3rd or 4th notch on the needle and up a size on the pilot too.

You may want to look into buying a jet kit. One that has a few diffrent sizes.

Not to stray too far from the topic, but in those temperatures, shielding of the engine will be necessary or itll lose all its heat, and make the jetting look wrong. Ive ridden my 250R in extreme weather, -10 F on ice and it acted really goofy because the engine was frozen.

Engine heat is needed to vaporise the fuel so it will burn. The engine running too cold makes the fuel mixture look lean - sort of the same condition as using the choke to start a cold engine. The excess, unburned fuel is hard on the engine because it washes the oil off the cylinder walls and causes accelerated wear.

A good trick is an automotive engine block heater, plug it in for a half hour before riding, itll might start easier.

I never thought of that. Do they hook into the oil system? Anyway to hook it into a radiator hose?

electric heater, clamp it on the engine and plug into 110 volts. That is, if theres anywhere to clamp it to thats magnetic. A car engine heater will heat that 350 engine up just dandy. We had to pre heat them to ride at -10F in winter on the lake - thats my avitar pix.

I suppose a water heater type would work on a rad hose if the inlet and outlet were the right size. Check an auto parts, they should be available now that winters here

thanks for your help everybody. We hardly ever ride past 9 degrees.. thats pretty much the cut off temp - too hard on the bike. Heres the bike in question. My friend bought it back in august after i had got mine. it is 1 of 3 350x' within 80 miles. The guy he bought it from was in jail and everybody asked his mom to sell it to them. Offers up to 3000 were made but she always said no. My bud mike went up to her house one day and her son had just got out of jail and was going out to his 350 to get her running. He'd been in jail for something over 10 years by then and the bike had just sat outside the whole time. Started in just 2 kicks. So my friend asked him how much he wanted for it and Sona (thats his name) told him 900. Mike had 800 in pocket and told him he'd give him 8 for it in cash and he had got him a new 350x. So one new bearing carrier and 45 minutes with the acetylene torch later he had a running 350. I got to do all the work on it- which is good because he doesnt have the time or the patience to do it and i always wanted to build a 350 so it worked out for both of us. We scored a set of brand new mitchell gold rims off ebay so were waiting for tires, a skid plate and grab bar, and some fusion paint before shes done. Gosh that was long anyways thanks for the help.
