Ahhhh it's that time of year again that I think about ice racing (new vid)

Hi Everyone,

It cold early this year, so I've been dreaming about racing. I found some free storage so I uploaded a vid of a 90MPH or so on the ice with the 330R. With 20" tires it will break 100, but it's still fun the way it is.

This is a HUGE file even after I compressed it. Sorry for the quality. If I tried to post it in as-is, the file would be 180MB. It is currently 7.5MB and the quality sucks, but still fun to watch.

Hope to see some people make it to the ice races this year.

Cool video,,,one of the local guys here has a TRX done out for ice with the PSI 425 big bore...frick that thing is snappy.....still no match for the cr500AF tho when it comes to racing....heheh

ChrisD, 90 mph on ice!:w00t: Holy crap man. Got some serious power sitting there, god do I ever love the sound of that motor, keep ice racing! You are actually the person that inspired me to start ice racing, im buying a set of tires (can you tell me a good brand?) to stud along with a front one to stud as well.
Thanks for getting me into this cool sport, I tried once with no studs- LOL I was all over the track and more. 360's 180's you name it I did it all but race.

Yeah, the motor has a little work done to it....actually a lot, but don't tell the golf cart racers. It eats them alive. Most people on our lake know the bike so I don't get to surprise them as well as I used to.

Glad to see you racing. Be careful, it's addictive. I love the rush.

As far as tires go, get the Cheng Shin C-826 18x9.5x8. If you have a spare set of 8" rims, you can get the tires for $35 a piece. You can get them on rims already for about $125-130 or so. Some places will call them "ice tires". They are a hard compound tightly knobbed tire. The hard compound helps keep the studs better. Racers have used them for 20 years and are the tire of choice. They're pretty cheap too!

I run my stock front tire with 3 rows of studs.

Studding advice: Don't use sheet metal screws for studs. Use Kold Kutters ice studs. They are very sharp and stay sharp for a long time. If this is the first set of tires you've ever studded be careful not to overtighten the stud. If you spin the stud in the knob you'll tear the rubber and will lose that stud quickly. Tighten the stud so it just causes an indent in the knob. I've also used rubber cement in the past and it helps keep the studs better too.....and put on a movie while doing this. You'll be there for a couple hours.

DONT ride on anything but ice or else you'll dull or tear out the studs.

Chris you'll have to keep me informed as to when you will be out on the lake racing. I'm in jersey maybe 45 min from greenwood lake. Just got a set of ice tires from xsystem on the board, just have to stud a front tire. Never ice raced before, I love spped and would love to give it a try. Could you post a pic of your front tire so I can see how to stud it.
Anyone on the lake with drag sleds. I usually run upstate new york with the sled but might bring it down.

Do you know Kevin Blair? He lives in Vernon NJ and drag races sleds. I think he's sponsored by Arctic Cat. He has some sick sleds. He's the only one that I know that drags.

Every year they drag sleds in front of Breezy Point Restaurant in the town of GWL. They sponsor time trials. That usually draws a good crowd. Usually on Presidents Weekend, they have a winter carnival with fireworks, etc.

We usually steer clear of town....registration issues, exceeding the lake speed limit (45MPH), partying, etc. The GWL police have a 4X4 that they ride around on (we call him the Quad-nazi). When we see him, we just drive away. He can't keep up.

The lake has 3 police districts, GWL (near town only), Town of Warwick (haven't seen them on the lake ever in my life) and NJ state police ( never come across them either). So we just avoid the town of GWL and have never been bothered.

My front tire is simple: two studs in each of the middle 3 rows of knobs. It has givem me plenty of traction.

Awsom, will deffinately meet up with you this winter. My sled is registered, not worried about that, but was going to ask you if you get bothered by the local P.D. Non of my trikes are currently registered in NY.
