just a quick question, I have found an 87 atc 250 (big red) es. To the best of my knowledge, the 87 models are extremely rare. the trike is a little rough but runs excellent, and you guys know more about these things than I do, so let me know what you think its worth.

Hard to tell without pics. Make sure the gears shift well and hold well, good compression, engine does not blow smoke, etc.
Do the lights/electric start work?
What tires are on it and what are their condition?
I'll put it this way. I have seen an 86 BR in good condition- meaning good tires, no fender cracks (a tad faded and weathered, but otherwise OK), a little smoke at startup, but NO SMOKE when running, good bearings, electric start/headlight worked, and it had a new seat cover. It went for $750.00 down here in FL. I think that was fair--- it was a great trike. ALso pricing differs by what region of the country (or world) you are in, as well.
Lots of factors play into pricing.

it does shift good and hold good. as far as the engine, it is excellent, may need a valve adj., but thats it. the plastic is the bad part, the rear fenders are cracked up pretty good, the headlight is missing and one of the side covers is missing. my brother in law has it and offered it to me at a killer price, I'm just wondering if it makes it more valueable or more desireable since it is an 87.

Well I dont think the 87 is as rare as you think. Mind you...it was the last year for them in the US and the numbers made were cut short due to the stopping of selling of trikes. With that said, if it has all factory stuff on it like tires fenders and seat cover and is close to mint it could range from 1500-2400$. But I have seen an 85 or 86 go much higher than a 87 just because they were more towards mint than the 87.
Just make sure there is no noise in the rear, brakes work, shifts fine, lights work, good tires with no dry rott, and no smoking engine. With a big red like that, I would say 1200-1400$ would be a nice price for it. The nicer it looks with stock stuff the higher that price would go.................peace

with all of the possible problems listed, the only ones that I see that apply to the trike in question is purely cosmetic, and the front light is missing. This trike runs like a champ, elec. start works great, all factory parts are there, I think I'll buy it, do some plastic work/replacing, and put it on ebay.

Hey let me know what you want for it cuz I wouldnt mind having a 3rd big red and you might be close enough for me to do a road trip. Heck send me a price now before you do anything and I might save you the trouble of messing with it hehehe:lol:

I'll get some pictures probably today or tomorrow and post them, I've made up my mind to buy it. If nothing else, I'll use it around the house to haul all my other ebay junk!!
