View Full Version : My Thanksgiving weekend

Dammit!

Welp. Didn't go as planned but not so bad.

I was supposed to meet Kasey and azhondagrl at Glamis. I have never been to Glamis before, let alone on a major holiday weekend so I had no idea how much of a zoo it is. I drove around looking for them for about an hour but it was like trying to find a needle in a stack of needles. Only hope would have been to park the truck and get the R out but I've heard stories about getting your stuff stolen at Glamis so I was leary of doing that (have to leave a lot of stuff in the bed, truck is too small to lock everything inside). So anyway, by this time I'm somewhat stressed and giving myself a migraine. I decide to leave the zoo and head down to Gordon's Well to see if I could find myMint87. Got there, drove around a bit. Nothing. However I'm a little more comfortable leaving the truck with things in the bed there so I get the R and start riding a bit. Well riding the dunes alone is pretty much like riding anywhere else alone. It sucks. So I decide I'm gonna just cruise and see if I could spot myMint87's Nick (it sticks out like a sore thumb). Right when I'm about to give up and head home, I found him. I was seriously gonna say screw it and go home so this saved my weekend. I ended up having a great time. Thanks to you and your family for your hospitality, Mike. :beer

Pics!

Edit: that wheelie I'm doing was completely unintentional by the way. I learned this weekend that I REALLY need an extended swingarm on that thing. Was fighting the wheelie monster the whole time.

Some sobering events happened this weekend too. Right when I got there and was looking for myMint87, some kid got hit on his dirtbike. I assume it was a truck or a buggy because his bike was mangled. He died at the scene. Later that same night we saw a buggy slam into a quad. Didn't find out how bad that guy was hurt though. So the moral of this story, if you and yours are still kicking, that's one more thing to be thankful for this weekend.

Awsome pics,Looks like a kick ass time.I love the sand. That is sad about the kid who died.Man the guys in buggies are pretty careless.I hear stories all the time of another person dying because of trucks and buggies. There should be some regulation on where they can go or something. If someone killed one of my kids,I gaurantee I would be in prison cause I would beat him to death before he even got out of his buggy.Anyway,Nice accidental wheelie.LOL

Dude, looks like it was a blast! I feel like I was the only guy in so cal who wasn't at Glamis. Cool you guys met up! Every year there are many deaths at Glamis from all kinds of crazy stuff, I haven't been on a holiday weekend in years. Have you been to dumont yet? Glad you are ok and you had a good time.....Dove.

jeswinehart: it's a standard PRM grab bar.

Hornetpowerspor: I've been out of riding for a long time. Just got back into it last spring and only recently have I been finding people to ride with (thanks to this board and .org). I'll make it out there soon.

Kintore: that's all the pics worth posting. Too busy riding to stop and take pics. ;)

Last time I was at the Oregon sand dunes the rail driver I was riding with said that the drivers were not supposed to go over the top of the dunes where they could not see. I have never been dune riding. But I am sure you realy have to be careful. I don't like riding a bike on the street because its just like the dunes, you have to watch out for the cars.

Do you ever do any riding in the mountains east of your place? There are a lot of trails over by Florence.

You mean like the Four Peaks/Sycamore Creek area? Yeah. Not sure where Florence is.

Now that's an ignorant comment! It kind of rates right up there with all the comments past and present about how dangerous and careless all us three wheeler guys are.

Dammit, sounds like a good time! Once you get sand in your blood there's no going back is there?

so true...and concidering the buggy driver wasn't arrested or ticketed, what does that tell you....fault may just be with the young kid on the Suzuki

it's a shame and I was there watching the investigation and such..very sobering

16 year old out of Peroria, Az...what a waste....

the buggy had passenger side damage...a king coilover buster in the middle, a-arms bent, front tire mangled
and side panel from front tire to rear crushed in...

the bike looked as if someone grabbed the front tire and rear tire and pushed accordian style with a quarter twist at the end in opposite directions,, the top triples were broke off and the handlebars were broke off the top triple, the pipe was ripped from the engine, and the poor kid was lying next to the front tire of the buggy...
