    i got a yamaha ytm200EK and i recently got a float valve.. Before we put it in it would start up fine but now it backfires and wont start i spotted a wire broke possibly going to the back electric thing. We started playing with the wires connecting it places and it still wont run!! is it possible it wont start in 45 degree weather??? some1 got a idea thanks _JOE_ :(

First idea---Dont go randomly plugging things in if youre not sure where they belong----CDI components are very unforgiving.Go to the front of this site , get a wiring diagram. If not I can scan it for you. Backfires can have plenty of different reasons, Including lean fuel, so dont instantly blame wiring. Does it have spark when you crank on it?

remove the spark plug.. pop it inot the wire and ground the tip to the cylinder, pull the cord and check for spark.

if you have spark.. pour a few drops of gas into the cylinder . put the plug back in and give it another go.. if it sputters a few times and dies.. i'd guess it's carb related somehow....

go from there.

spark is there and about the wiring a local guy that just died rewired it and believe me it is nothing like the real diagram he just wired it to run then again it was only 50 bucks but man i am so mad it wont work! i recently put stable in my gas does this have to do with it??

yes i removed the spark plug the orignal plug was black on the bottom and i replaced it with a new champion and it does the same thing!!!! AHH this bike is nothing but problems for me i qoute my dad 1 step closer to running then 4 steps back" this is so true!- JOE i am thinking about putting it in the middle on the street and lighting it on fire!! well not that far lol. i want it and i want it to run instead of being a ornament! =JOE

Check the flywheel key a backfire can shere the key a little changing the timing, your better off using a known to be good USED plug not a new plug.

First mistake was the champion plug. Get a NGK. If your getting spark, and the plug is black maybe your just flodding it. turn it over 5 or 6 times without the choke or giving it gas then choke it.

Since the last thing done was the float in the carburetor, you'll have to assume its a fuel issue. I would take the carb off again and inspect that everything is put together correctly. If the float is stuck or the needle is bent etc it wont run. These things run on so little fuel, it needs to be right. CLean the old plug with a toothbrush not a wire brush or use the new one, as long as it works when you test the spark. Was the engine noisey before. is there a chance the timing jumped? If not, youre probably ok. Good luck.

lol the black plug was a ngk not a champion lol and ebecme i put the airbox on it and its a tight fit on this bike if * didnt know and the wires were in the way so i put the wires on the side and as i was taking it off "airbox" it may have ripped a wire off the rear electrical thing because there are 3 wires that lead to no where and like i said the guy that rewired this bike died so i cant ask him.......So i think im screwed! Also before this happened when i would pull it it would sometime be hard to start like i would pull it and it wouldnt come out all the way now it seems to be easier to pull???????? Thank you guys some much but nothing helped.. :{ I think i will sell it for parts if i cant get it started :{ i want to ride so bad im only 16 and cant drive yet my life blows all i want to do is ride and this damn bike is holding me back every day after day!!!!! i just said i cant i dont want to and i did enough to this pile already and my wiring is beyond different also my electric start will never work again.

It shouldnt be that hard to wire correctly. Take it to someone that has a Multimeter and knows how to use it. If it is now easier to pull now, you really should have a mechanic check it out. Dont sell it yet, you may regret it when the guy down the street rides it past your house!

lol i did that to the guy i bought it from lol he was so pissed all it need was a new plug aND I got it for only 75 bucks!! but i put about 350 in it!! I am not bringing it to anyone else and im not putting anything else into this bike!

does stable in the gas effect it??

YTM200BOY
11-28-2005, 07:12 PM
forget the wiring guys! thanks also how much do * think i can get out of this if it starts?? i now it will run like a top once i get it started

lol my choke isnt on my bike anymore the idiot that had it last broke it off.

man you gotta relax and take it slow. Buy a new wiring harness off of ebay and start from there, and youll start making progress.

If you ripped wires out of somewhere, dont tell us to forget about the wiring.

Keep your head up, itll all work out, just stop spazzing and posting 15 times a minute with no new information

dont sell it just because of this, hahaha ive pushed my bike a mile home, and rebuilt the carb, and resoldered all conections, and changed the chain all in one day, because they all wore out.

you have it good.

anyway, follow what everyones said. use some starter fluid/gas into the cylendar, try to start it. if it starts, then you probably have a problem with the carb. work from there, and take it easy.

Hold up ---its easier to pull?????? Your crank key is busted off------Rotor spins -Crankshaft doesnt- Put your finger in the spark plug hole==Does it have compression?

Dude,
go outside , sit next to your trike, take a deep breath, calm down, and think...."it was running fine until I did what?" Start with the very first thing you worked on. Go over it, make certain it was done correctly even if it takes hours. will it start? no? now go over the second thing you worked on, does it start? keep doing this until you find the problem, I will almost promise you its something you overlooked!!!!! and probably something very simple...I worked for an hour once trying to figure a no spark problem...my kill switch was off, go figure:lol:

i just said i cant i dont want to and i did enough to this pile already and my wiring is beyond different also my electric start will never work again.

anytime you say you "cant" do something, you never will! My grandmother is 90, she always says she "cant" an she never does...just rocks in her chair all day. So whenever you hear someone pass buy on their way to a riding spot, dont ever wish it could be you......... because you "cant".
As far as wiring goes...use the diagram someone linked...it doesnt matter what color the wires are , just wire it the same way it is in the diagram...follow one wire from a start point on the diagram to the stopping point..is it the same on the trike? do this for each wire, until you do the all....if it isnt the same, then put it that way....You have to try, YOU have to WANT ...its the only way..Dave .:p

Clean the carb and make sure everything is adjusted right. Once that is all done we can move on to more "technical" whichamacallits

You guys are inspiring thanks its not for sale i will get this great bike working again!! i no it. my dad's buddy rebuilds stuff and cars to oringal hes coming over saturday!! i dont think i broke a wire because my dad said its getting spark :}

Dave223
11-28-2005, 11:15 PM
ok its getting spark, so now you need to other things...fuel and compression
try putting the plug in an spinning it over...check the plug, is it wet? try a few drops of gas in the cylinder an spin it over...does it want to fire up? try these things an tell us what happened

ebecme01

No, fuel stabilizer wont effect it. Try the good plug, starting fluid, and youre off. Engines only need three elements, compression, fuel, and spark. You say you have spark, assuming its timed correctly, you just need to get fuel working right. If you put your thumb over the spark plug hole and pull or kick it over, if it blows your thumb off easily, you should be ok. So, try squirting a littel starting fluid in the cylinder, put the plug in and it should fire.

So did the bike run after the 50 dollar hob wiring job? I guess you changed the carb piece after the wiring was done?

You need to go back through your work because if you haven't rode it something you changed is the problem.

traxxasx
11-29-2005, 06:21 AM
well if it ran before the new "float valve" change that that is 99% ** problem, i mean come on if it ran then * changed somthing and now it doesent........that makes alot of sense into why it doesent run???? right>?

i tryed the starting fluid idea what can cause this key to break off or whatever your talking about and where is it at??

the old float valve has no tip it blew off some how so that float valve is shot i threw it out now i got a new one and i thought once i installed the new float valve these bike would b ready to ride and cont wait until the float came.... Now blah lol..

Umm you say the tip was missing? Well maybe its stuck to where the needle valve seats an now you've installed the new one on top of it.

Just out of curiosity put your hand on the end of the exhaust while someone pulls it over. Does any exhaust come out? You might have a bent valve if no exhaust
