yes, use the 14, gives you more top end, if you are doing woods, tight:13, kinda open and mx:14 I use 14/38 on my mx r, but thats with a crazy motor that can pull 15/36 if needed, my woods r I use 14/39. I would use 14/39

14 and yes there is a difference. I use a 15 tooth sprocket in the front and 36 tooth in the rear. :w00t:

what do you have done to the motor to pull 15/36?????? I have a 310pv and everything else to go with it, I find my 250r is fast enough for mx using 14/38.

I don't have a bigbore but I have a good ported cylinder :naughty: and everything else to go with it.

If you ride dunes use the 13. Otherwise you probably won't be able to pull 6th gear in the sand unless you have a really pumped up motor.

the closest dunes to me are 14 hours away and if I ever get to go I will change my sprocket setup. around here there are trails, fields, hills, and drag strips. I wish there were some dunes near me. I would be there every chance I had.

On my 250R I run 14/36. It has great top end. Down here it is all flat and I have to outrun the 4 strokes.

I got a 12/39 now. Last night I ordered a 13 and 14 of Rockymountain, they are running a closeout on sprockets, these I ordered were $5.99 and 6.99 a piece, also got a few of the "Y" wrenches with 8mm,10mm, and 12mm sockets for $.99 on closeout.

Man, a 14/36 sure is tall, dunno if mine has the balls to pull it, hehe. This is a TRX chart, but should be the same for an ATC. Just for estimated speeds of course.

Dang good price on sprockets, even if theyre plain steel.

Make sure that front sprocket is on the right way, there is a backwards on my Sunstar and they didnt say so. I found out the hard way... The sprocket is offset a little to one side and the chain runs crooked.

At some point, the sprocket and chain get tough to stuff in the chain guard, but DONT take it off, thats begging for a busted left side engine case if the chain lets go. My engine has a huge welded spot to prove it:cry:

Im running a 14/36 sprocket ratio on a stock 250R engine and first gear is still useless - it makes too much torque.

on most modded r's 1st and second are useless, on mine I could pull 3rd gear holeshots, I don't, but I can,

i run a 14/36 with 18 inch tires for mx,and trail ridin i go 12/36 with 20 inch tires.what size tire do you run?when you go from a 18 to 20,or a 20 to 22,it's like going up or down 1 tooth on the front sprocket.

Can the case saver go on with a 14?

Mine would if the chain hadnt ripped the mounts off the case! It looked a little tight at 14, but I havent measured it.

Yes you can use certain case savers with a 14 tooth sprocket. I can't say they will all fit. The one I have will work well with a 13 or 14 tooth, I think the 12 would tangle the chain with mine. I run 12, 13, & 14 tooth sprockets on mine, with 20" tires & a 38 or 39 tooth rear. It all depends on what kinda riding I will be doing. I like the 12/39 for tight woods or quick accelerating, 13/39 for normal riding & 14/38 or39 for fast riding.

What kind of case saver do you have? I need one of those, my 250R has stock gearing and I think even 2nd gear is too low for most things and first is about like the low in a 250 big red!

I want to see a pic of that. I run a 15 and theres no way, no room for the stock case saver unless your talking about the outer chain guard.
