We were going to kreem a gas tank for the 85 200x that we are building and we put the tank prep A in, let it set overnight and the next morning it was leaking. It was leaking around where the lower mounting plate is connected to the tank. My question it would it be ok to go ahead and finish up the kreem process and use the tank or is it junk now??

I don't think you are supposed to leave it overnight....

How does the inside look at this point ? shiney.. or still rusty ?

Its ok to leave it overnight, the tank on my 110 did the same thing, the tank prep eats through the rust...I had to leave mine set for 48hrs to get all the ruse out! I would go ahead an kreem the tank, just make sure to give it a few coats. I had holes the bigger than a quater in my tank and with a little JB weld, a little bondo, and kreem the tank is like new.

It may take a couple of coats, but the sealer should seal them up. How big are the holes?

You cant see the holes, they are up under the rear tank mount. On the 83-85 200x there is a larger "plate" on the under side of the tank and it started leaking from under there somewhere.

I've used Kreem's rust remover, but then I sealed the tank with Red Kote, that stuff works great, look on ebay for some, that's where I got mine.

Search for fuel tank reliner or just reliner and you'll see it, if you want to use it that is.

How much rust will that stuff take off? I have a ton of rust on the inside of my tank that is just flacking off to the touch. It actually is so bad that there are pin holes where gas leaks on the top side of the tank.

It'll work but you'll have to leave it in there a very long time, probably a day or two. You could just go out and buy muriatic acid at Home Depot or any place like that. I did two different tanks, the second one I used the muriatic acid and it worked quicker and was a lot cheaper then the stuff from the Kreem kit. I didn't have any holes in my tanks so there I can't help you although if they are small the sealer may do the trick, on the Red-Kote can it says it can seal very very tiny holes, like pinholes I'm guessing.

I used these as references for using the acid and the tank sealer
