I just rescued a Yamaha YT175K from rotting in a barn. I am in the process of trying to get it to run. It has an oil tank, oil pump and fuel pump. I would like to remove the oil pump and just run premix from the tank. I also would like to remove the fuel pump and run straight to the carb from the petcock. Has anyone done that, is there a reason I cannot?

My oil pump isnt hooked up on my yt 125, i premix my gas. Just make sure all the hoses are plugged off. As far as fuel pump, my line runs from the petcock to the carb, no fuel pump. But i dont know if the 175 would be different or not.

As far as I can tell, the tank is well above the carb. I cannot figure out why they put a fuel pump there is the first place.
What did you use to block off all of the places where the hoses you no longer need went?

Fuel pump is there for constant fuel pressure...and a more consistant fuel level in the float bowl..it really IS better to use them...all the new 4 stroke quads use them also...i would just rebuild it and leave it, they last quite a while and a rebuild kits only 10 bucks...

I did not realize that rebuilding the fuel pump was so cheap. I have no idea if the one on there works or not, but externally, there is a lot of corrosion and when I pulled the fuel line, it looked like a lot of junk in the fuel line. I will plan on rebuilding it, thanks for the input.

I think NAPA Still sells fuel pumps like that for sledss,,,exact same thing, you might be able to pick up a new one cheap.

Mine didnt have a fuel pump on it when i bought it. I just got back from riding it, had a good time. If it makes it run better, i'll buy one too.

The oil pump can be left on the motor, empty the oil tank -and plug the nipple "ON THE CARB" (Air leak) --
The fuel pump definitely helps keep your fuel bowl full, do keep it--(By the way -The 175's have fuel pumps -125'S dont)
