finally i have a new addition to the family an 85 250R :w00t:
call me crazy but i paid $850.00 for it and a good condition extra rear shock
the bike is missing the head light, tool box, tail light, the long middle front motor mount bolt ,rear brake lever and linkage, kill switch, rectifier.
it has a twist throttle and newer aluminum handle bars. every thing else seems to be stock.
It does run after a couple of kicks seems to have decent compression ,but I havent as of yet done a compression or leak down test on it .
The head leaks coolant and it has tranny problems so needless to say the cases will be split and every bearing, seal and whatever else will be replaced.
I havent as of yet ridden it to diognose the tranny problem I will ride it at the end of December when I get it home where I have a place to ride it.
pictures coming later this after noon.
OOps almost forgot the KEI-HIN flatslide carb.
So even with the transmission problems was it worth it ????

You might of paid a little much for it but those things are tough to come bye. Any 250r under a grand or so is going to need work but I would be worried about a tranny. It seems motor parts and brake parts go for decent money on ebay. Good luck with your project......

Parts are easy to come by and i dont know about over there but over here they are plentiful. Hey if you don't want to spend money on rebuild, swap it with a 250R motor of any year from 1985-1989 and you good. For a good motor check this dude..: http://www.3wheeler.org/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22042&highlight=250R+motor

thanks for the replies fellers and here are a few pics
as far as the trans. ill split the cases and fix it if its cheaper than buying a motor
but that link you posted and $400.00 for the motor is awesome thanks
I probably wont get to the restore for a year or two though as when I get back home and get a job in the motorcycle industry (attending MMI) I have a 250SX proj. that ive
got 50% complete but moth balled because of school.
