Man !

I put the engine back in my basket case Big Red 250ES today. It was real "B" if ya know what I mean.

I had to get some used engine mounts. I bought some off of E-bay. Problem was that even the spacers where wrong. Lucky for me, I found the rear mounting bolt with the right spacers in the junk pile. It was the only original one.

I have put many an engine in a bike frame. I have had to pry here and tug there, but not like on this thing. I had to even get my wife out to help. (Now that is dangerous.)

Is this common on these machines ? It is 20 years old so I guess anything is possible. I know it has been mistreated so there is no telling what this thing has gone through.

But hey it was free !

You must have done it correctly cuz I have had to pull and put back in bigred motors sevral times and each one was a real pita.
Heavy motor with virtually no room to spare easing it back into position and then trying to get the drive shaft lined up at the same time ,,, yep it is a work out.
Heck getting them out is a big challenge too !

thanks Jes

I was thinking it was just me. Thought I was losing my touch with a wrench !

Anyway, it is in there. I have to reinstall the clutch side cover and the rocker box.
A few odds and ends and then it will be time to fire here up.

The differential is going to need a going over though. It looked pretty rough in there. I cleaned it out but the pinion gear seems to have a lot of slack.

Speaking of the pinion, that driveshaft was really fun.

The '84's aren't any fun ether. I had to lay on my back and jerk, cuss, shout. Then it gave in mysterously.
