Picked up my free 3wheeler yesterday and discovered it is a 83 ATC200. Fine by me because I love the one I have already. Here's the problem. It has a bad crankshaft so I was thinking of using the motor out of my 82 ATC200E Big Red since that trike has a mangled front end and a toasted rear axle.
Can anyone think of a reason why this swap wouldn't work? I'll get a better look at both when I tear them down this weekend.
Dosnt the 200E have the hi-low trans? i think that would hit the 200 frame...but im not postive, thats the only problem i could see...

I see a bigger problem.... the electric starter hanging off the front of the motor. Unless you removed the electric start and used the 200's stator and side cover, I don't think the motor will fit.

The earlier 200 and big red im sure are the same size frames if its the same as the 200m, all honda did was looks like too a ball peen hammer and colapsed the front down tube in a little so the starter would clear...

i tried it, wont work without a torch and welder....the curved tube in the rear hits the sub tranny, and the front too. The front wouldnt be hard, cut out a section of the down tube and flip it around and weld it back in, the rear is the problem. that tube has to move back close to 1/2 inch I think? Dave

Maybe just me, but that down tube is a pretty important part of the frame... I wouldn't recommend cutting/welding it there.

.
What i ment is the 200m has electric start and its the same frame as the 200.... haha

Ok...I have been measuring the frames....And have come to the conclusion that the 83 minus elec start should fit........

Nope.... 200M frame is based off the 82/83 Big Red.
Thanks for playin'......

This is goin to turn into a cool project. Frame integrity after a few mods and welds aren't a concern as that is part of my job I do every day. Once I get started I'll take plenty of before and after pics and document what I do to make it fit.

OK...The motor DOES fit...
I put the 200 BigRed motor into a ATC200 frame...I simply took the electric start off and it bolts right in.Looks like all you need to do is bang the tube in for the elec start to fit.
