What part of the clutch do I need to replace? When I hit the throttle hard it just revs to the moon and i dont go much faster. Do I just need to replace the clutch plates?
And Iv heard that a xr200 cam will interchange with my 86 x. Is there any power gain? Is there enough to make a difference and worth it? THANKS!!!!

Your fiber plates are worn. You will need new ones to get the power to the ground. Take a look at your steel plates, though. If they are heat scored (blue tinting), then they will need to be replaced as well. I usually replace both fiber and steel plates if they are still the factory parts due to their age. I'm not sure about the camshaft because the XR200R engine is the same as the 83-85 200X. The 200X engine was redesigned for the 86-87 models.

I would also replace all of them. You can get a repair manual and it will give you specs for the fiber and the steel plates. Then you can measure them and find out if the steel are out of specs or not.If not and like 69hemi said if the steel plates arn't burnt real bad then you can get away with replacing fibers.I would still replace all if it was me.

You will need the friction (fiber) plates, I would replace the springs while in there (only another $15). The steel plates may need to be replaced but you can't tell until you have them in your hand to nspect them.
As for the cam NO, the XR swap is only for the first gen. 200x (83-85). If you want a different cam you will have to go with the more expensive DG, Megacycles, or Poweroll cam. I would spend the money on other mods first though (exhaust, filter, ect.).

NOW! I have pipe, filter and 50mm over wiseco piston. What cam would be the best for power gain?
