View Full Version : Conversion 5 to 6 speed
I am getting ready to put a xr200 transmission in my 83 200x project. Are there any hidden problems with this conversion?

to start with the trike will end up geared down. xr tranny's are geared different because the tire circumference is almost double that of an atv tire. on most bikes the size of just the rim almost equals that of an atv's outer tire size. also the xr kicks to the rear and your trike kicks to the front. intake boot is also angled different, but might still work.

save yourself the time, sweat, and money....buy yourself an 86/87 200X.

OK..thanks......
I am going to go ahead and go for the convertion. I will try to keep very good records of any problems that I encounter. I will also take a lot of pics. Maybe this will be of use for someone else. I have a fesh painted 83 frame that I am starting with. I am going up from there. My xr 200 6 speed bottom end will be here in a week or so. I am going to use the center case halves if I can. I will be using my 200x jug and head. The head is already ported and I am trying to locate an xr200 cam for my project. This machine is going to be rebuilt from the ground up. Also are there any benifits of using an 84 swing arm over the 83?

83 200x swingers were a differant (weaker) design than the 84/85....but No the hubs were not differant to my knowledge.

Ok wrong again(that doesnt surprise me :? ) Why would it be weaker,it look damn near the same,i would say? But then again its an 83 (first year) mistakes were bound to happen.......
