do any damage or cuase it to run bad or anything cuase i was thinking of just putting the filter on right after the carb? the part thats circled in the pic is what im talking about....then just run a filter thatll fit the carb direct.....

I couldn't see the picture well.
You can run a filter mounted right on the carb.
I thought about doing that on my Big Red, but decided to keep the air filter box instead.

if your riding in only dry conditions I dont see why not, but once the filter gets wet the engine will start running like crap..

I see it all the time where people run the filter direct to the carb. If your getting that much water the filter is saturated then you should probably be running a complete, nicly sealed airbox.

actually its running with a reg k&n cone style filter after the black intake rubber deal....id like to just run the filter with out the black boot.......i dont think it runs damp at all but if it does then just put it back on then huh......water tho, im not sure if i ride near any water.......any performance gains by any chance with this mod that * know of?

The rubber boot will not prevent water getting in the carb, only the airbox would. If your running a K&N, and it is sandy around you, then you might want to buy an "outerwear" cover. They keep the sand out of the K&N filter. There shouldn't be any appreciable performance gains by removing the rubber boot, you've already removed the restrictions of the airbox. I hope you've thought about rejetting though. All that extra air will mean that you will need a little more fuel.

Doesn't that boot have something to do with "smoothing out" the airflow into the carb? Maybe just on the intake to the engine, but I think that boot does more than just connect the carb to the filter. I'm sure it would run just fine, but those Honda engineers surely had something in mind when they designed it. Correct me if I'm wrong, which I certainly may be....

No tim -you arent wrong---It was designed to minimize turbulence in the air intake, but only as a complete assembly --airbox included. Once you tamper with any part of the setup--its design purpose is gone----

its possible but it just might hurt the carbuation a little bit other than that itll be fine

yes i had already rejet the carb for this set-up - so far with me running it with the cone filter and boot it has been running great at how i set the carb....anyways guys im the one that implanted the 200s in a pocket bike - yall prob dont remember but that was a very while back....im gonna post back up on that thread soon.....with some wicked results...............thanks

The first thing I ever do to Every machine I have ever owned is take the airbox off and install a K&N filter and outerwears right off the carb.I play in snow, mud, sand, dirt, rain and I have very minimal problems. If you fly through a 10" pool of water and really soak the filter. It probably will bog out.I try not to take my machines swimming or drown them in mud.But the regular stuff the tires throw up wont bother it.Just make sure you use a pre-filter or the Outerwears.Same thing just different names.

Will it hurt the motor if you dont re-jet it and use a clamp on filter?

It can--
Less restriction = More airflow
More airflow = Leaner Mixture
Lean mixture = more heat
The heat build up in the cylinder causes higher Cumbustion temps and can actually MELT -internal parts

Ok,so I am looking at doing the same thing(using a air-filter)on a 82 200...
What jet sizes should I be looking at getting???

Hey,did you have to re-jet for this???
Cheers...

I ride in water all the time with my pod UNI, just make sure you clean, dry and oil the filter after some seriously wet riding. Sometimes wish I had kept that ugly box.
