The carburetor on my 185s floods out the barrel and drain hose momentarily after I open the petcock on the gas tank. I'm thinking it's probably over filling the bowl, possibly due to a worn needle and seat. I've been reading other posts and quite frequently, I see "slide and needle valve" mentioned and how it can be adjusted up or down. I've looked all over my carburetor and can't find this anywhere and am just wondering if that applies in my case. The float I have is plastic and doesn't appear to be adjustable. The carburetor has "PD" printed on the side and underneath is stamped "85AAUJ1". Any help would be appreciated, TIA.

Yes its overfilling----
On your float --there should be a small metal clip -that attaches to the float and wraps around the needle-----It falls into the bottom of the bowl- and when this happens the needle wont seal--bending the clip is how you adjust the float---if you didnt know it was there when you opened the carb---it fell out on the floor where you were working---go find it---
The needle you are asking about is the throttle needle----it is in the center of the carb on the throttle slide---it drops into the main jet and shuts off fuel from the main circuit during Idle and small throttle openings.

Really... Well I know that spring wasn't there when I pulled the carburetor apart. The needle was placed directly on the float and there was no spring in between or laying in the bottom of the bowl. That's probably why it's flooding...thanks for the info.
Regarding the throttle needle...is there any sort of adjustment on that? And what about that slide mechanism...is it applicable in my case? TIA.

I know this is a real dumb question, but can anyone tell me where the adjustment for the main jet needle is located? Apparently, it needs to be in the second groove, but I'm having trouble locating it...I've looked all over the carb and can't find it...can anyone please help?

There is a "Bottle cap" at the top of your carb---where the cable goes in---unscrew it --and pull on the cable----out comes the throttle slide.the needdle on the bottom of the slide is your needle jet---
