I bought a compression tester guage, my question is, after I screw it in do I keep pulling the starter until the needle stops or do I only pull once? The first pull goes to 60, second to 90 then the third to about 110-115.

what a POS. i cant get it to rev past 3000 and then it bogs and dies out, i've played with air/fuel screw and changed jetting to no avail. what happens when the reeds break off or something like that i've heard about? it's a 2 stroke.
Exactly what your descibing happens....What kinda of bike is it? i would check the reeds..., is it hard to start?

When you do a compression check the engine should be warm and the throttle should be held wide open when turning over the engine.

yes HARD to start and loss of power...there should only b a maximum of 0.010" between the reed cage and your reed. Sometimes you can flip the reeds over, but that is just a temporary fix.
160 psi is where my 83 250r sits, as a guide, if you wanted one...
oh and i have not heared of a reed breaking...

They usually dont unless you take the stops off (like I do...) :naughty:
110 psi aint good and aint bad. Just depends on stock comp. Compression isnt where Id be looking, look at the spark plug. Is is black?
