hey guys whats up?
i found a few threads on the drag classes at tf05 but not real sure on how it really played out. Did the four strokes have to race the 2 strokes?
Who had the fastest 350x? If you know, what all was done to it?
Thanks, Jason:TrikesOwn

The drags went pretty well. There were no classes set up last year. I was lined up against Billy on his 500R with my stock 350X. I didn't care at all. I wasn't looking for any trophies. That was probably the most fun I had on my 350 in quite a while. I must have ran 50 passes that night racing anyone on anything. I think they were discussing setting up some classes. That can get ugly pretty quick if guys start complaining unless the classes are kept very open ended.
4 stroke modified
4 stroke stock
2 stroke modified
2 stroke stock
Then separate by cc size to keep 250s running with 250s in the stock class and in the modified keeping the 250s with the 310s and 330s etc.
I'm not sure how they'll do it. But I've seen too many people at too many car events that have classes get all worked up over what's stock and what's not and who is in who's class with what. I sure hope that doesn't happen this year.
My vote is for a "fun and grudge" night. Line up against whomever you want and run. No trophies, no classes. Everyone will be able to tell who's the fastest by watching. Narrow it down to the few 500s/310s/330s that are smokin everyone else and line them up to see who the top dog is.
Eliminations don't help determine who's fastest unless there are classes.
I do like the radar gun if that's still available. Kinda neat to see how slow you're actually going when you think you're doin' 80mph.
Just some thoughts I have. Feel free to jump in with other comments and suggestions.
Good topic badculture. Hopefully this can get decided before we all get there.
Might need a poll though.

I was nt able to make it to the drag races but I did see the motocross last year. That was setup in classes and everyone seem to have a good time. I am all for keeping it fun but watching a stock 350x go up agianst a 500r isnt much of a race to watch.
I understand it is sort of a "run what you brung race" but it would be nice to see classes for 4 strokes and classes for 2 strokes.
just my thoughts- Jason

I like the grudge races best myself. It's great to Line up if you want to race and go. This allows a WIDE range of match up's and shows everyne just how bad one machine can woop up on another. This is how it has been done for the couple hours each time. It was after this that the Races got serious and eliminations started. I think this is when it should be races against equal powered machines.
Something I feel we need to upgrade to is a Tree / Pole. And I have been trying to buy a Starting Tree for the drags. I had located a used one locally. But after looking at it I don't think it would work for our needs ( POS IMO ). The guy wanted all most as much as a new one.
I did check into getting a New one as well, but I do not have the $2700-$3000 laying around to get it. Though this one is cool as heck because we could possibly print out Time slips ( This was a option ) . I think there is even a option to save each persons / machines times and get a average run time. I was looking into a 12 volt system, but I now have another option for power.
Another option is to find a good used set up. Does anyone know of one For Sale or Rent?
If anyone wants to donate to help buy a Tree set up let me know. This would be used year after year, and could also be used for other events during the year.
Here is my commitment: I will start the fund with a Personal donation Pledge of $500 ( To Buy one ). You wouldn't need to send the money right now. I would say we have until the end of March - Mid April to order it.
Do we / will we have enough donations to get one? You can PM me if you wish to remain anyomnous ( sp? ).
Anyone else have any input on this?

Everything on the drags has always been pretty informal. This last year (05) it worked as a run-off type deal. If you won the race you moved onto the next bracket, and then it just kept going on until only one person was left. But, that was only after there had been a bunch of runs before hand. Everyone had a chance to get out there I myself was just kind of late because I didn't like the mud left over from earlier in the day
Classes would be nice, but I kinda agree with Rhuel and Howdy...it could get ugly real quick and the most important thing about this whole event is to have fun.

I think the concensus is that there will be a run-off again this year for the fastest trike, but it will be "enter if you think you can compete" and winner takes all. The rest is just a free-for-all grudge racing.

If you break it down to 2-stroke & 4-stroke. We will find the fastest of each class & that would be alot of fun. Then you could have a grudge race, or winner takes all for the big bore & 500's at the end. I thought the radar gun was real cool also. We could build a hillbilly tree with some colored bulbs & light switches.

I have thought about that as well. It's not a bad idea at all.
The main thing I like about the New set up is that you can have all the info put on a computer automatically. ;)

I think classes would be nice. It would be nice to see who has the fastest smaller cc thumper for the guys who have there 200x built up. Really I guess the same for every class. Just keep the classes open and just for fun. If people want to have a grudge match class were they think their 4 stroke has a good chance of beating a 2 stroker than that would be cool too.-Jason

I think if you just did it 250cc 4 strokes and 175cc 2 stroke class and then did a 250 2 stroke and 350cc 4 stroke class that would work. Either way hopefully My 110 will be moddified by then

My input....I have been involved in Organized ATV Drag Racing for the last 5 years and when ya get into classes, it gets messy. There will ALWAYS be somebody at the bottom end of the class, and SOMEBODY at the topend....as in 101cc-250cc 2Stroke. You will have somebody on a Blaster trying to race a built 250R. 251cc-500cc 4 Stroke.....Sombody lining up his 300EX against a new YFZ450. (I am using Quads for examples because that is what type of problems we run into all the time, forgive me)
How you guys ran it in the past works fine because you don't have enough of the same sized machines to warrant making lots of classes. We run into that at our Club as well. It is really no fun trying to keep track of 15 classes in 2 stroke and 4 stroke. Take alot of manpower to organize that type of event, not to mention the time to run them all in a double elimination. I think if you have a couple fairly broad classes....and make it a "run whatcha brung" rules.....things will be much better. For the guys who want to complain about having to race a modified ATV with their near stock trail bike...my suggestion....build/buy a bike for drag racing. Don't bring a knife to a gunfight. I know this is for fun, but there will be those who will pi$$ and moan about how unfair it is.
Like it was stated before....you will be able to tell who is competetive and who is not just by watching the grudge racing. I do think it should be split between 2 and 4 stroke or at minimum the 2X Displacement Rule for 4 Strokes. 2 stroke 250cc = 4 stroke 500cc.
How ever this plays out...I want a piece of Derrick's ATC500R.... :naughty: :beer

well it's kind of hillbilly and your going to laugh, but i have a plastic stoplight that is about the size of a real stop light. it has the red yellow and green i believe. it needs an end on the cord or some other kind of wiring setup. I would gladly donate it if anyone thinks it's worth a shot. i could bring to Howdy's within the next few weeks hopefully. let me know.
