Sticky shifter on my 250SX

When I down shift on my 250SX the lever will stick down and i will have to pop it back up evrytime. I'm guessing that it is a worn down spring, is there a way i can fix this without having to dissasemble the engine?

THe spring is just inside the side case not a big job too fix right takes around a hr too do this

Thanks for the info, i just didnt want to start working on it if it was goint to be a HUGE project.

Just to clarify, look for a broken pin (arrow in attached picture) If you pull the cover off you will see a pin in the square hole that the spring rests against. This pin will get loose ( unscrew ) and will break off.
