Sealing Plastic Tanks and Painting

Do you guys have any experience sealing plastic tanks from the inside (using Kreem, Red Kote, or some other product) and then painting them on the outside?

I have always wondered the same thing. If anyone has done this, how long ago did you do it, and how has it held up?
