Well today after I got out of my GED program, I was in a good mood and decided to take the LT out for a little trail ride. Since it was only me, the LT, and the camera, I wasnt able to get any action pics, but theyre still decent. I will tell a little about the location of each picture, but the majority are at a place called "the bowl" which is right across the road from my house. These trails lead up to Rhode Island and further from what I hear, though I have not been that far up them yet. Heres the pics....

Heres the first half. If they are in the order that I uploaded them than the descriptions are right, if not I will correct them.
Pic 1) taken down the paved trail that leads into town, background is normal woods.
pic 2) taken infront of the entrance to the trail, you can see the large puddle that you have to go through to get into the trail, and to get to the bowl.
pic 3) taken at the bowl, in the background you can sortof see the mud pit thats frozen over right now.
pic 4) taken from the bowl aswell, in the back theres a little trail that leads to woods and the mud pit and the main trail too ( its not visable)

Heres the last half of the pics.
pic 5) here is a ditch that is fun to go through slowly, I purposely put the LT there for a pic.
pic 6) Just the LT ready for a little bath in the main trail.
pic 7) ready to leave the main trail and head back home, the bald tires got through the mud and slush very well.
pic 8) a pic of the LT. Not as dirty as I thought it would get, makes for easier cleaning up.
let me know what you think, I might go back out tomarrow for another ride/ photoshoot.

Yeah I know and I plan to do so when my buddy gets back from working out of state.

01-26-2006, 06:06 PM
What state are you in? Are these like offseason snowmonile trails or something?
Good pics too. Is it just the plastics or me that make it look like its pointing down in the front?
New2ATC
01-26-2006, 06:10 PM
I am in Connecticut, and I am unsure of the main use of these trails, all I know is that we go riding there. And I dont know about the pointing down thing, I know the front fenders arent really bolted down all the way, i only had a few bolts, and there is no front grill piece which might add to the look factor.
New2ATC
01-27-2006, 07:58 PM
I think I see what you mean now about the front end pointing down. I think if i have time tomarrow i will bolt the fenders on better and see if its up anymore.. I am also going to make a hood for it somehow, so it looks a little better, and maybe take the headlight guard off cause its pointless now.
Tri-ZNate
01-27-2006, 08:16 PM
I think what it is, is that the rear fenders have more space between the tire than the front and it gives it that illusion.
New2ATC
01-27-2006, 08:40 PM
yeah. with the 20" tires i want to get it will make that illusion even more..
Tri-ZNate
01-27-2006, 08:44 PM
20"? Man they spin the tires easy as it is. I cant imagine 20".

01-28-2006, 05:08 PM
yeah but i want it to have a more sporty look.. lol... the bigger tires make it look odd to me.. idk im weird..

nice pics you got there.. .. how do you like the 230's sideways kickstart? I find it to be a pain in the rump when you have to kick it alot...
400ccHomemade
01-30-2006, 11:35 AM
I have an LT250E that looks very similar to that. I need to do a cam chain, that should be a pita. I just got done doing rings, honing the cylinder, lapping the valves, etc, but I still need to do a chain. I hope it runs well when I get done. I got it running last year for a few rides, it was fun back then with next-to-no compression, so it should be fun after I get it back together. Only thing I hate is it's a hard-tail, so I gotta stick with those big-ol' tires.
New2ATC
01-30-2006, 04:39 PM
yeah the 230's are quite fun, they have quite a bit of power in them.. the only thing I would change is the kickstart really.. Hopefully all goes well with your 250, and you can put some pics up too..
Tri-ZNate
01-30-2006, 05:04 PM
Yeah at first I thought the sideways kicker was REALLY gay but I really dont mind it much. As long as I have footpeg grooves for my left foot so I dont slip while kicking than I'm good to go.
New2ATC
02-03-2006, 11:36 PM
Yeah I need to do something with my pegs cause i tend to slip quite a bit on them.. I got the rear fenders bolted back up good, gonna do the fronts tomarrow hopefully.
Tri-ZNate
02-04-2006, 12:33 AM
I took a grinder to my pegs And dug ½" deep by 1/4 " wide and I really dont slip off anymore :D. Oh and I sharpened the tops so it comes to a point for better grip.
New2ATC
02-04-2006, 01:08 AM
yeah i dont have access to a grinder right now, and dont have a file either.. hmm.... Ill have to wait until my friend comes back from working and ill ask to use his..

little more work done to the LT today. Got the front fenders mounted up good for now. Need to find better nuts and bolts for the braces though, little "ghetto" for now using some old bicycle bolts. I also took the headlight guard off, looked goofy with no headlight. Will get a light in the future. Still need to get a used hood for like 10 bucks, or make one for now, than Im gonna clean it up a little, paint some small things, make it perdy.. Anyone have a used hood for sale cheap?

if I had another hood I'd sell you it. Thats about the plastic I dont have a double of. Maybe put some colored plastic under the front fender and bolt it down? I dunno just an idea.
Oh and 400cchomemade My friend has a lt250e. That thing ripped. He ran a straight pipe on it along with 25" tires that rubbed the tank  that thing was awesome.
New2ATC
02-04-2006, 05:28 PM
well we have some old window screen stuff and im going to make a mesh like hood temporarily out of that for now. Priced the maiers and they are like 26 bucks, so thats not too bad. all I can say is dennis kirk is a little pricey. 7 bucks more for a uni filter, and 4 bucks more for swingarm bearings.. Im going rocky mountain i think.. The only things I plan on getting from DK is the DG steel nerfs and the cobra megaphone exhaust..
Tri-ZNate
02-04-2006, 05:53 PM
nerfs would be cool. Thats like the 5th thing on my list of things to get.
New2ATC
02-05-2006, 01:31 AM

allright no pics... I started working on the hood, and said screw it for today and went riding.. Helped a guy with a viper 50 that wouldnt start and pulled a quad back to the kids house cause he broke the sidecase... other than that i trashed my swingarm bearings ( right side) even more, and got very wet and dirty... I dont plan on riding it too much again untill I fix the swingarm bearings, but I might take it out for a little ride if its nice...
Tri-ZNate
02-06-2006, 12:12 AM
what you can do for the swingarm beaings when you replce them is, on the right side of the swingarm where the bearings are there is a metal plate there to protect them. There is a little indent stock in that plate and the previous owner of mine drilled it out, tapped it, and put a grease fitting in it :w00t:! So now I just grease em up and go. Might be something you want to look into doing.
My dad tried it on his and broke the tap piece in the hole . He just had to do it again to make sure the thread was set and SNAP!
New2ATC
02-06-2006, 03:01 AM
When i get the swingarm off Ill look into it, and depending on the time I have, and toold I have, I might give it a try, or I might just pack it good and grease em up every 2 weeks or so..
New2ATC
02-06-2006, 06:44 PM
Well today, I finally got to starting the hood, I had some window screen metal mesh type stuff laying around, and I made a template and fit the screen around it, and put another piece of screen around that, doubleing up on it, and stapling it together. I might add another layer tomarrow, as it still bends a little bit, but for now I am satisfied with my handy work. Tomarrow I have to make a template for the second half ( I only did the flat part for now, 13" up from the front of the fenders), and the second half will have a hump in it for the wires that run down under the hood.. Heres a quick pic of it mounted... Let me know what you think.
Tri-ZNate
02-06-2006, 07:27 PM
not bad. When you get the top done I would take them both off, prime 'em and spray paint them. Might make it look beter.
New2ATC
02-06-2006, 07:32 PM
yeah i have thought about that already. If I like the looks enough, I might go to home depot and get some sturdier thicker mesh and make a hood out of that, for more durability.

No updates yet, just a question or two.. I took it on a road ride the other day into the next town to get a friend, I was cruising in 4th ( dont like to be an a-hole on the streets) and it seemed like the front end was shaking, like not enough to effect it, but it was kindof noticable, could that be anything major, or is it just like a bent front rim/ unblaneced tire? Just figured I would ask and make sure there is nothing seriousy wrong with it.
New2ATC
02-11-2006, 09:20 AM
another question.. Do you think I could trade this for a decent dual sport bike? My landlord is getting strict about the ATV's, and because to get to where I ride theres a bit of road riding, and tight trails where the LT has a hard time getting in/out of ( its made for bikes mainly) so anyone know if i could get a decent dual sport bike for this beast. Im just throwing it out there right now, and if any offers come Ill highly consider them.. let me know please..
Tri-ZNate
02-11-2006, 07:36 PM
The front might be loose lug nuts, bent rim or even a bad bearing (they seem to go bad fast in a quadsport, mine are already in need of a grease packing).
New2ATC
02-12-2006, 01:28 AM
the wheels are tight on there though, only movment is really in the tire sidewall.. Im thinking i bent the rim a little bit and only notice it on road..

Okay new dilemma.. lol.. anyone know how to change a schrader valve on an atv rim? if so whats the difficulty in getting the old one ont and sealing the new one in good? I hit a rock and put a flat spot in my rim, causing it to leak, and after beating it with a hammer ( I know its not the correct way but i had to get it back home) and putting some free gas station air in it, the wheel leak stopped, but the valve hisses now. i was able to ride it for a good hour and a half and it was good, but i know it leaks, and i want to fix it. Would a can of fix a flat do the trick for now untill i get new tires? or can I just tighten the needle in the valve? Any help or links would be great.

Yeah its a pain having to refill when you want to ride.. My friend and I got to talking (were like partners when it comes to fixing his cars or my toys) and Im debating throwing a 125 or 250 2 stroke in this thing. My dream trike is a 250-R, but why not fullfill a little part of it. The only questioning is, what one will fit better, and power differences? i saw one on ebay with a RM80 motor in it, and it was cool,so any input?
Tri-ZNate
02-17-2006, 07:08 PM
The way i always thought about it was double displacement. The 125cc 2 stroke in your quadsport will be about as powerful as the 230, just with an added powerband. Now the 250cc might be a little trouble fitting in.
New2ATC
02-17-2006, 07:20 PM
So I wont feel as much of a gain if I go 125, or will it wake it up some? Another thing, Isnt the LT250R based on the 230 chassis? Or is there other modifications that were done to it to make their 250 2 stroke fit in. Just trying to get as much information as I can so I can get this beast rolling.
Tri-ZNate
02-17-2006, 07:28 PM
I dont believe so. You gotta remember when you put that in the quad chasis you adding double the weight and them some compared to the dirtbike chasis. So I dont think you'll see much of a gain on top end, might be able to spin the tires better however.

hmm seems at this point no ones interested. I did decide to do a little web searching and found out what i want to do to this quad if it doesnt sell. Heres a list of what I want to do to this beast,
85-59 LT250R axle ( about 3" wider fits in stock carrier with same hub splines)
DG RCM steel exhaust ( Im somewhat on a budget.. for now)
DG Steel Nerf bars
Uni air filter, with no air box lid
webcam stage 1 or 2 cam ( depending on if i want to go up on the bore)
Carb rebuild or bigger carb.
MAYBE Works shocks, or another shock that fits.... theres more but thats mostly the performance stuff, The other things are cosmetics (bars and such).. any other thoughts on this?
Tri-ZNate
02-21-2006, 01:06 AM
yep 3 suggestions
With all that modding go with the bigger carb, it will be worth it
Go with the milder stage. You dont want to have a drag racing cam for a trail bike
If you air box lid is comming off go with the K$N filter. If at anytime you need to throw the lid back on you wont mess up the jetting as much with the K$N
New2ATC
02-21-2006, 01:11 AM
thanks for the info. WebCams has a stage 3 racing cam, which is for all out racing, the stage one is for mainly stock, and the stage 2 is for larger displacement, stiffer valve springs, and such, so if I get the .040 over (67mm bore i think) and stiffer valve springs, I would go with the stage 2. And I am going to look for 250SX carbs on ebay if I keep the quad, Im still searching for a 200x or dual sport dirtbike at the moment, so these are mainly ideas untill I get money, or untill I know for sure Im gonna keep it.

Here is a site with the bolt patterns for the rims. http://michigandirtslingers.com/ATV_Tire_Chart.htm Also new2atc installing a different motor in your 230 is not that hard if you have a welder and means to fab motor mounts and exhaust. Height and carb are a big factor on doing this and also the swing arm tends to be a little hassle. When we put the 200x in ours I was worried about the height of the motor. If it was too high I was going to use the stock gas tank and use a heat gun to heat up the bottom of the tank to form it in the shape that would fit around the head. (The tank that I used hasn’t had any fuel in it in years I wouldn’t do that with out making sure the tank was absolutely clean from all fuel residues) Second the carb has to be relatively level for the floats to work proper. I mentioned the swing arm because this can be a slight problem. The height of the front sprocket on the 230 was different than the height of the 200x causing the chain too run over the top of the swing arm they do make a guide or slide for the chain to run on the swing arm. To over come this we adjusted the rear shock so that when the quad is sitting with out a rider on it the chain is on the swing arm and with a rider on it the stock roller on the swing arm handles the chain just fine. (I am going to order a slide for it just to be safe) We went out trail ridding yesterday for 5 hours and had no problems with ours at all. I took the dig and got some great pic’s
New2ATC
02-21-2006, 01:18 PM
Thanks for the info. Yeah Id put a slide or roller on mine if it came to be a problem. Im thinking a newer 125 engine will fit the applicatiion if I decide to do a swap. I still have it up for sale so im giving some time before I make any commitments.

Yeah 40 over is 67mm (every 10 over is .25mm). Stage 2 sounds like a good cam. Might have to get one if I decide to pimp out the Sport. oh and my 110 rims and tires fit :D so I'll take a pic this weekend to show a Sport with NON worn out tires ;)

yep 110 rims they were spray bombed primer gray though. The rears are 22" so i think they are 1" taller than the front.
I gotta fix up my quadsport though, the thing sucks. The chain is so floppy that in an hours time I threw it 5 times, the front end needs the tie rods tightened, and I still have to rejet the stupid carb. Oh well all in good time :beer

yeah I took mine out today for a little ride, and i noticed that I had slop in the front end, so I looked and noticed that there was a little play where the bushing is on the top of the steering stem, and I also noticed a little crack in the stem. It doesnt really move alot, so I am thinking a little JB weld would work, or if I can get someone to welt it, that would be an easier route. Gonna ask a buddy of mine if he can weld it sometime, till then, its parked, only gona be ridden very very lightly if i need to ride it.

Well the LT is done for riding for a little bit, my clutch cable snapped at the clutch lever on the engine when I was moving it out of the front yard, so I need to order a new one, but I am going to wait a little bit, so I can get my exhaust and swingarm bearings in one shot. I also need to find a good website or something to get decent tires for a low price ( I really dont have the 100 dollars for new tires right now) so I am going to shop around, if anyone knows good places let me know. Figured I would update on the progress. Hope to get it all built up for next winter.
