i heard that a yz 490 motor will bolt right into a tri-z. upon looking at my tri-zs frame i see no reason for it not to. it looks like the only tricky thing will be adding that exhaust. even though it seems like putting an air cooled engine into it would be a major demotion.

well tell me what you guys think. and how would that add up to a atc 500r?
let me know

thanks for your time
ryan

what kinda riding do you typically do ? air cooling is definately a demotion, but your almost doubling power. it should have no problems keeping up with a 500R ( depending on riders also though )

i have beaten 2 500'r's w/ my 310 big bore stroker. big cc's don't neccessarily mean big power.

Yup! And lots of it :naughty: You should not have any problems running w/ or beating a 500R. Be sure and post pics before, during, and after project. :) ( if you do decide to do it that is.

Air cooling is not nessicarly a Bad thing, its still 465Cc bore, with a Real good port job it can still make good numbers, i would not use a 490 tho, there Junk, use a 465.

the 490's are fast but not as fast as a cr500
not even same ball game
about 10 horses under a cr500 the kx is highest with 65 horses then the cr500 with around 60 depending on what year (01) then the yz with about 50 depending on year (wanna say 83)
thats my opinion and look

As I said before, whoever is the better rider is 90% of the time, gonna be faster.

Yz 490s have some kind of detnation problem or something. Impossible to jet, over heating. There was a topic under this vs that that will explain it all. Look it up.

I have never heard of any detonation problems. I have heard of a few overheating problems from desert racers. Other than that, all i have heard is good things. If there is a detonation problem, experiment and fix it. :p

The detonation problem is the WORST it takes just short of major Head modification to make it working properly, Im gona find it hard to find that it will run with a cr500, i really do not know i havent seen one Absolutely Built before....But now you have me thinking......

Why not just put a CR500 motor in a Tri Z?

Yeah, but its an easier swap then fooling with that mess of an R frame.

But it's still cross breeding, you don't let your dog screw the cat do you?

No, but sometimes ya gotta work with what ya got man!!! :) And because Id never seen it done before..... and on top of all that.. its about a 5 hour conversion, instead of weeks like everyone who has done it with a 250R frame. :)

if you can get 50 horse reliably out of a a/c 490cc motor without it getting super hot and without a decent pipe i will $#!T myself.
