I recentally bought a light weight clear hood for my sled for 150.00 and decided to give painting a try, also sence it is clear I painted the inside of it so the brush wouldnt scrape it off. I had to tape the flames off first so that you could see them. I didnt get the tape all down flat in a couple of spots so there is blue in the yellow flames, but hey it the first time I have never painted anything so I thought it was no biggie. let me know what ya think.

I think it looks awsome. And the colors match my race teams so I like it even better. =)cheri

hey thanks for the positive feed back and yes thats my first time painting I had to go out and buy a gun and all the filters for the air compressor.
plus the paint I have about 350.00 into it all together. the guy that I bought it from said it would cost around 500.00 for his friend to do a job simalar to that. so I decided to just try it myself.

its got around 2000 miles on it right now, its gettin a little tired so I was thinkin about putting a union bay 925 big bore in it, but I would have to take the oil injection off and mix half race half premium and mix my oil in with it.

Not bad for a first time painter. :) i looked at the pics trailprotrailpro I read the post.I was gonna ask what kind of clearcoat you used.I painted a few sled hoods trailprotrailpro,,never on a clear hood tho. I hate when tape lifts and the paint sprays under it.I wait for it to dry and fix it with an airbrush.Unfortunately you cant do that when painting on the inside of the hood. A friend of mine(expert painter) always says "The taping makes the painting".
Are you planning to replace the Original stickers? They would look good on there.

no the original sticker kit for the sled is about 150.00 so I will not replace the stickers.

I personaly would have left it clear, they look so trick! I was thinking about buying one for my sled to drop a few pounds, but for the price $300 + I think i'll go with a new light weight (boss) seat.

300+? there is a guy in spokane that makes them for 200.00 even. I got mine for 150.00 because it had some flaws in it, 2 edges are a little thin. I didn't leave it clear because I have dual pipes and had to put heat tape to keep from melting it. if I wouldnt have painted it than you would have seen the tape.

If you had your pipes ceramic coated they should have been fine. My slp single on my xc 7 is swain tech coated and it runs a lot cooler than a normal painted pipe. Don't take what I said the wrong way, your paint job looks nice, I just love the look of the clear hoods.

no I didn't mean to sound like I took it the wrong way I was just explaining why I had to paint it. ;)
