Did you all see how upset he was. How would you feel if that was your favorite machine. Good riders do sometimes make mistakes.

I know exactly how he is feeling... I did that to a brand new quad less than a month old. It's funny now but believe me it wasn't back then.

I dont even think it was funny, possibly because I know I would be real pissed if that was me on my machine, feel damn sorry for him. Hopefully the damage wasnt to extensive and luckly he didnt get hurt well mabye his ego but thats it.

02-20-2006, 07:10 AM
it was funny until i saw him sit down and put his head down cause causehe probably worked hard for it and loved it, and to give it more pain it tumbles hits a bump and flips like 4 kick flips in a row and then a nice chuck of his plastics go flying, i feel bad cause i hate to be having soo much fun and have a simple mistake reun the whole day and cost $$$$ to fix your machine.

Those quads are killers. See how unstable they are. BAN THEM!

02-20-2006, 12:14 PM
You know... if he moved his ass.. he could have saved a good chunk of that plastic !!!!!!.
Been there. almost done that on many occasions.. and the first thing that comes to my mind..
" OH SH$%@$%.... GRAB IT.. HOLD ON.... SAVE THE MACHINE !!!! " lol....
Then the pain from the fractured bones sets in.. but by this time the bike is hopefully ok ! hahahaha.a..

Back in 1984 - 85, I watched a friend of mine roll a 175 Tri-Moto down a steep hill about 200 yards. He stalled almost to the top.
He stalled, got off trike and tried to turn it around by hand and then it started to flip, roll and do end over end's.
It was much more worse than that video and looked like a boulder going downhill at full speed.
Only thing it did was bent his handlebars and broke brake lever.
He gave it 3 yanks on starter and fired right up!
That person on vid is lucky his clothing or something did not snag on wheeler and take him dowm the road.

Man. That's not funny at all. I feel for the kid/guy. If he would have turned around and threw his hands up in the air like "Ta-Dah!" (Like speedbump when he vaulted over the bars on his T4 hopping that log) then it would be a different story. This dude was heartbroken over it. And his machine took a beating. You know the A-Arms, ball joints, axle, etc had to have gotten tweaked on a roll like that. Not to mention the plastics. :(
Reminds me of a buddy that rolled a couple years ago. See attached.

Man that got to be a horrible feeling, when I bought my first Raptor my friend begged me to let him take it for a ride, I did and no sooner than 3 minutes he smashed into a tree, bent the frame, etc, etc-I remember to this day wanted to draw target on his face and --------- well you understand what I mean, anybody here know the guy by chance?

It looks like one of two scenerios could have avoided this situation:
1 - whoever was running the camera could have put it down and went and helped him once he was stopped
2 - the rider did little in regards to leaning up when he tried to re-start. I mean this guy was still seated. He should have been up ovedr the bars to take off on a grade like that once stopped.
JMO - not really that funny, but I'll bet he learned a lesson.

Not the misshift, its what he did after he was stopped that i laugh at..Looks like he no idea what he was doing! You dont pop the clutch sitting down on a hill like that LOL...

yeah i understand i wouldnt of stayed on the bike at that point i would of just stayed there and had my friends help me push it up the hill lol

02-20-2006, 11:24 PM
Well like i stated before I've done that... But it was on the way back down the hill... Sliding on loose rocks and tipped it over when i hit a stump. Unfortunatly I made the mistake of trying to hold onto the quad. A mistake I will never make again.
Best thing to do is have a spotter to help or jump clear of the bike. Like someone stated before. The tart with the camera should of lent a hand instead of just standing there.

A mis-shift? What experienced rider is shifting gears on a hill like that? Not only that, you don't goof on the throttle like he was doing. He should have been wound out in second gear all the way to the top. Hopefully, he learned from it. Glad he was unhurt.

man, that didnt even look like that hard of a hill. :wondering

I thought he was going to start rolling backwards and grab the brake which would have been dumb. The only thing dumber would be to pop the clutch...

Not at all. As prviously stated in this thread, when he stalled it on the hill (which could happen to any of us) he should have had his chest on the handle bars when he let out the clutch. Maybe I've been riding to long but it seems to me that that would just be common sense to people. Obviously if the quad is rear wheel drive, and your on a hill and you just all the sudden go from no tire movement to gunning the throttle it is gonna flip over. Defiantly seems like simple physics to me......

I feel for that guy, I've had a tumble or two just not so horibbly. At first when you know your in trouble, you think to yourself "Oh shoot, I'm in trouble, Here we go!" Then the moments of watching your bike tumbling down, breath being held, eyes following. When its at the bottom, stopped rolling, you say to yourself panting, "Oh God! What did I just do" Feeling shaky, trembly. Then it you really start kicking your self when you hear the words "Ride within you Limits"

Some people just have to learn the hard way.Unfortanetly that can get costly. I know looks arent everything but that guy doesnt even look ready for a raptor let alone a raptor on a steep hill. I'm not saying he cant ride,,just made a bad quick decision. I feel bad for anyone that has to watch thier ATV get destroyed after makjing a stupid mistake.
The safest thing he could have done when he stopped was have it in gear, shut it down and hold the front brakes and jump off to one side. Then spin it around and go back down. Most people dont do that though when theres cameras involved, :)
I've been stuck on many hills much steeper than that and have never crashed. If i get into a wheelie,I just ride it the rest of the way up and set it down when I need to steer. Sometimes I find it easier to ride on the rear wheels vs all four wheels. Sometimes riding on only the left or right wheels works easier too.,,,depends on the hill.

New handle bars: $95.00

Y'all can judge the poor guy to death, a he was smart enough to ride in full gear which tells me he wasn't completely inexperienced, he blew a shift, it happens to many of us; that he made a mistake and popped the clutch, not hard to do, bet he was a little cramped, alot of adrenaline, a little scared and he just plain screwed up.
I just went through my first major on a trike last weekend (after 16+ years of riding) , anyone ever loose a bead in the middle of a power slide on ice? My fault, I should of had more air pressure doing what I was when its +10F or different tires or something, maybe shouldn't have been trying to outrun a new 450r, whatever . I ate my trike for the first flip before letting go, still hurts to pick up a mangled trike and put it in the truck, hurts worse to call the wife from the hospital; Boss gets a little upset to see one of his managers walk in looking like he went a few with Mike Tyson, really tough to explain to people a SAFETY Manager races a trike and crashes. just proves the "trikes are dangerous" theory doesn't it,
people make mistakes, he'd be a NOOB if he did it 3 or 4 times in a row.
Anyways, Darrel
ps I need a red 84 Tecate front fender please if someone has one, I have more races to do before winter is over.
I am just glad it wasn't a three wheeler.LOL
