i was thinking of ways of upgrading my trike and came across a bunch of self tapping greesecerts that my dad has, have any of you drilled a hole in your swingarm where your bearings are in and put one in there, i figured it would be a good idea because i have to cross water sometimes and mud, good idea or not?

i know where the bearing go there is this sleeve thing in the swingarm, do *Edited* have to take all that out before you do drill or is that sleeve far enough from where you will be drilling the hole

i was just talking to one of my dads friends who knows quite a bit bout wheelers and he said he didnt think it would even do much putting one in becuase my bearings are sealed, i think thats what he said not possitive, i have a 84 200x?

ok what you have to do for grease zerks is drillthe hole wher eit wont affect chain adjustment or wont get broken off. then thread it screw in the zerks. then pull the axle. pop out the bearings. pull the inner seals out so grease can ge tto the bearings. put the bearings back in, make sure the crush /spacer tubs remains in the middle pop in new outer seals or the old ones is still usable. and reassemble. ps. dont put toomuch grease in the carrier that you pop the outer seals out or its just gonne let alot of tirt ad water in there and destroy the bearings quicker.

so do you think its worth putting a greese zerk in there or not, i want my bearings to lasat as long as they can?

Yes that's a great idea, I've done that many times on swing arms, rear axle carrier bearings and even some front axles. If the bearings themselves are sealed, I rip the seals out, and put the dust seals in backwards to let excessive grease/pressure escape.

that looks preety cool, i think tommrorow night if i get the time im gonan do it, do you think i can just drill the hole without taking my axel out or is that a bad idea, im just trying to save time becuase im a lazy ass and dont want much down time working on or is it best i take the axel out?
