it all started when i was taking apart my pull starter and the stupid spring popped out.

well after a lot of fighting i got that stupid thing back in but now it doesnt want to recoil itself when its installed. if its not on the bike it recoils fine but when i put it on the bike it usually sticks in one spot and will not go back in unless i take it back apart and turn it by hand.

i do have a shop manual deal for this but of course when you need it,it's nowhere to be found.

i need to get this thing running again:crazy:

Did you put a new rope on? If you didn't do so, it will make the entire process go more smoothly. Start out will a new rope about 1 foot or so longer than it needs to be, put it all back together and pull the excess slack out the handle and tie your knot, do not cut the excess until you are sure it is working fine. Then cut the excess.

There is so many little things that could cause this. Did you re-assemble it correctly? Did you lube up the main shaft? Is the friction plate too tight?

yes it has a new rope...how long should it be

did i reassemble it right? i really dont know im pretty sure i did though because this isnt the first time.

what is the friction plate?how do i know if its too tight?

i noticed that the bolts holding on what the pawls grab on the motor their heads and ground down a little bit and one of them is broken off.
I dont know if this is something that happened right now or if something that happened with the previous owner.Im guessing the 2nd because he wasnt the smartest fellow.
