ATC 250r Bearing replacement, please help

I cant get the bearings out of my rear carrier to save my life... Its an 85 model.

How do i get the bearings out? Theres penetrating oil soaking in but i doubt itll help.

How do you guys get them out? Do i need a blind bearing puller? do i need a big hammer? Can you press the bearings out from one side? Like use a press and press one all the way through the carrier or is there a little shoulder/ridge that the bearing sits on.

Please help me out, these things are killing me.

You have to tap the bearings out from the other side with a bar ,just be careful and tap all around the bearing not just in one place as you will crack the carrier ,Have a go tomorrow when the oil has soaked in . Just be careful!!!

how can you tap it out if that center spacer doesnt let you hit the bearing at all? Im thinking about cutting the inner race out, opulling the center spacer out, then trying to use force to get the outer race out, or just use the dremel and hack it all up.

Take your punch and shove that spacer out of the way so you can see the bearing. Its not going to move much but just enough to get in there. you need a fairly long flat head punch to start tapping it out. as soon as you get one side out you can remove the spacer and the other side will be a piece of cake... make sure you yank your seals out first in case you have not done so already...

well i finally got them out, took about 30-45 mins. I used an assortment of screwdrivers and punches/chisels and it got to about the end of the carrier, then i couldnt get it out. I got pissed and used the chisel to break the inner race, took the bearings out, broke the outer race and it popped right out haha. Im cutting them out from now on.

All i have to do now is get a piece welded to fix a little piece that broke off where the brake caliper holder goes, and dremel and marks that i made on teh carrier where the bearings sit, and im good to go.

put carrier in oven at 200 degrees for 20 min. take carrier out an hit down on some type of wood and bearing will work its way out. After getting one side out other side will be easier. This method works great for installing also.

Yes, try the oven next time. Works well for carriers, cases, and wherever steel bearing races are pressed into an aluminum housing. Oven heats the entire aluminum uniformly, and the aluminum expands more than the steel. 200-230 deg is ideal.

Just using a blowdryer for a few minutes does it too.

I use a burnsamatic torch and heat only the carrier witch expands it and it will fall right in same thing with crank berng. never had a prob.
