Perhaps somebody can help. I did an upperend rebuild on a 84 200x. New rings (properly stagered) Replaced cam, seated valves, new seals, and gaskets all around. (properly torqued) When it is running unburned oil (caramel color) dripes out (drip every 3-5 seconds) of the exhaust by the head. My thought is poor valve seals. Although I did replace them. I am holding off on tearing it apart and doing the troubleshooting do to the extent of the overall rebuild and paint job. Lot of time and $ invested. Any help?

was it within tolerance for just a ring job? may have too much clearance between the piston and cylinder, if so, you're gonna have to tear back into it and get a new piston and bore it.
did you hone the cylinder to break the glaze? if not, stop running it now and pull it back apart, may still be able to save your new rings.
did you break it in properly? is it broke in at all yet? how long have you run it since rebuild?
if it's not broke in yet, you may be getting oil blown by your oil rings as they haven't properly seated yet, may just need to run it longer. i've had this happen more than once and as recently as a couple weeks ago when i rebuilt my fatcat. thing would smoke quite a bit when it got warmed up but after a couple hours of run time the oil rings seated and there's not a bit of smoke to be seen.
are you sure you sealed the head cap properly? only takes a very very thin layer of silicone but must be on all surface area of the mating surfaces (except around the oil journal) how bout the valve adjusting caps? didn't happen to leave those loose after you readjusted the valves did ya?
just some thoughts, good luck, hope ya don't have to tear back into it

Thanks for the info!!!!! This is a fresh rebuild. only 20 min. running time Cylinder was crosshatched, all measurements in spec. The valves were done by a friend with 45 years experiance. I hope break in time is all I have to deal with. Takin it slow.
