Trying to fix a trx125 for a friend. Will not start. This trx 125 just had the head done at the bike shop and I rebuilt the carb. Getting a spark. Good compression. Not able to get alot of gas to the plug. I get a backfire out of the muffler when I used starter fluid and advance the timing. One of my friends said it could be that the roter is 180 off this might of happened when the head was reasembled. I still think it could be the carb because I had it running for a 30 seconds with my carb off of a atc90 but had hooked to my car battery and had to crank on it for a hour. Could the engine run 180 out ?? How hard is it to reverse the rotor on this? Any ideas?? This is the first bike or for that mater any engine that has ever kicked my butt!!!

I have a 1985 Honda ATC 125, and I had problems with my trike so I cleaned and replaced the carb, and then it wouldnt start, so I made sure I had the EXACT plug for it and it still wouldnt start ( I was thinking about putting her on the lawn with FOR SALE sign) but then i turned the air/fuel mixture screw out and she fired right on up. hope she helps

OK Now I put the atc90 carb on and played with timming. Got it running several times but only for about 30 seconds. Then it would loose power and almost die. The head started to smoke and then it shut off. This might need the valves adjusted because the head was just rebuilt. Could it just need a oil change? I now Know that the carb is one of my problems but can't seem to keep it running. The small carb might not work because it dos'nt have a vacuum inlet. Help!

Might as well change the oil, it will only set ya back like $5 so you might as well go and change it.

when you do a top end on a motor, you should always adjust the valves...

Adjust the valves, if they dont work then turn the mix screw out, see if that helps. I think the valves should be gapped at .006 on that machine.

Great news! It now runs! The rotor pin fell out. I put it back in and it ran it wih my ATC90 carb on it. perfect! Then I put the original carb back on it and it ran perfect! I just need to adjust the chain. Thanks everyone for the help!
