Does anybody know about engine conversions in the Fiero's. I heard you can put a 3.8 supercharged in one and they are pretty quick.

I have seen this v8 one done before but dont know much about it. I use to have a 84 with the gutless 4banger entill the dam thing caught on fire.

They do not have electrical issues. The first year or two did and most of the other FIRE problems is due the the rear deck lid when opened dumps snow water ect onto the exhaust which makes it crack and then it blows exhaust onto the wiring etc..

However, why not just buy a IROC Camaro and get real performance with a backseat and a real trunk???? My big beef with Fiero's other than catching fire and never working etc is the fact that they are wayyyyy unpractical, 2 seats and a sad sad excuse for a trunk with a dinky spare tire in it. People have said yeah but theyre good looking for cruising, in that case I'd buy a Vette and be unpractical with performance.

The only conversions I've seen were back in the early 90's at the Pontiac dealer i worked for when they'd get converted from a running piece o crap to a singed/crispy piece o crap!!!

I have seen the NothStar conversions finished. No idea how or what all is involved.

I will say by time they got to the '88 with the V6, they were not half bad.

Ahh I see. I'm a 16 year old highschool student and I drive an old chevy pickup for hauling my bands gear around, so fiero's aren't practical in my boots. I see it from your perspective however. like I said it is possible to get a motor mount kit for dropping a 350 smallblock right into a fiero engine compartment. The problem is that the stock frame is often not strong enough to take the torque from the smallblock, you could probably box the frame and add some crossmembers to change that though.

Which means you will not see one at every starbucks. there is company in indy that will import them and make them legal for the states. They're ok, I did a buick GN 3.8 conversion on one a few years ago, it was a total blast after we were done putting a Can-Am body kit, widening,it whale tail kinda looked like an older Porche racer, I know where there is a supercharged 3800/87 Fiero conversion that looks stock, If you could get it to hook up it would be a baby rocket, it took 2 of us a weekend to convert it, the guy who owns it found a kit, after a little tweeking it was easy.

Yeah I hate being negative about something but I do state the truth. 5 out of 5 of those cars that my buddies had, gave them nothing but trouble. They had tons of electrical issues with starters, wires and so on. I personally like the looks of them but the reliablity from what I saw wasnt the best. I think its cool restoring an 80's car, in fact I have been thinking about that myself. Kudos to ya Adam and dont listen to anyone when it comes to your dreams, as they are all opinions.

Exactly as I said before. For everybody else talking about there rides, with pics and so forth. I love all automobiles, and I love the enthusiest and how they love their cars. Pretty much all cars are great and if you got one that you like good. Gives the man a goal to work at a goal. Sometimes I bet if it weren't for women, we may spend ourselves right out of home and be stuck living in these things. This thread was for Fiero's not for nothing else. Like ya said you may never be able to afford a viper, don't be down to bad cause cars and bills like that bring more trouble than they are worth sometimes. Im not putting a cage in it bacasue Im pretty much done with it and dont want to spend anymore money on it. It started out as just proving a point to my uncle. Well being as he has alot more money and I have no brains. We ended up building 2 cars that are virtualy undriveable on the street. cause everytime I would beat him. he would dump another 3-4 g's in his car and whip may ass. I in turn would remove more weight and trun up the boost. Thus making the engine a time bomb. That has no protection incase of a crash bumpers, door braces, there is no metal in the front other than the subframe , fenders hood are all fiberglass or carbon. The back hatch is fiberglass with a plexy window. There is no interior except a kriky race seat. basicly it just got out of control. If I want to take it anywhere I neeed to buy race gas. and when you have a 2 gallon fuel cell it is just retarted.
also it's got a dog box trans which means that it needs rebuilt about every 2-3 k miles. also haveing an open O2 dump that comes out infront of the driverside kind of pissed off the local police.

I guess I just chalk it up to somthing I did when I was young and dumb. Plus if I put a cage in it to race it and raced it. Someone would build somthing faster and it would all start over agian.
What I really want is some sort of suv or turck and Im kind of saving for that now.

It will probobly end up either parted out or left in the back corner of the shop till I get old and rich.

Im done fighting over this it was dumb on my part to start running my mouth and I am sorry, But hey I really wanted your viper.

so anyway back to the original topic, fieros are cool and can be very nice cars, the only iffy looks part about them is the dash and there are plenty of upgrades for that, as for the why not a camaro, ha, camaros are not sports cars, sports cars only seat two. v8archie.com has some very nice conversions, www.fiero.nl is a great forum for fieros and has plenty of people and plenty of mods done, there was one guy that was pulling 12's on a 6 banger with no nitrous, but I think he hit 11's with NOS. They are very fun cars to drive and do handle pretty well especially the 88 fieros, or if you upgrade the suspension. Besides if you have never driven a mid-engine car, there is nothing like it. Balls to the Wall.

Rangerover, I have the love for the fiero's also. Personally I think they are awesome cars. As for the conversions how crazy do you want to get? My buddy just got done swapping a 3.4 twin cam into his. This I would have to say is the easiest swap. You can reuse most of the factory parts and it is now much quicker. Now if you want to spend lots of cash and make yours into a fire breathing monster I will say go with the northstar or the ls1/lt1 conversion. I have personally ridden in a north star conversion car and it was insanely fast. It made the factory car look like a stinkin power wheels. The downside is really exspensive to do, requires quite a lot of fab skills, (if you are going to be doing it your self). Personally I would go out and find any wrecked lumina euro sport with the 3.4 twin cam in it. The main things you are going to have to change with this are going to be the wiring harness, exhaust( thats the only real hard part), and you have to make an adjustable dog bone for te rear top side engine mount.

thats the stuff that hagen brought over from germany. funny thing happened today, i went to cheers in concord nh for dinner and on the wall was a huge BITburger beer mirror, thats the same beer hes drinkin in that pic. I had a glass or 2 of that at tf05, the stuff is pretty good!!
