I need a longer grab bar on my 200s, so if it goes over backwards, the grab bar will take the fall, not the exhaust. If the exhaust takes it, it strips out the exhaust headed stud in the cylinder head.
Will a 185s 6 pack rack fit my 1985 200s? OR, can someone with a 185 measure the distance between the two mounting holes on the side of the frame, and the distance between the two rails of the grab bar which attach to the frame?
This is the rack im talkign about:
http://prm-atv.com/MN.asp?pg=products&specific=161&from=19&mfr=2
If this isnt possible, what are some of my options to make it so the exhaust wont hit the ground before the grab bar?
Ive though of trimming down the silencer, extending my current grab bar (not too fond of this one) and i dont know of any others.
Thanks,
Mike

I want one for my 200s as well. I think that one you posted a link to will fit. Let us know what you find out.

has anyone else gone through this before? Can someone with a 185 or 185s go take a look at your frame to measure the bolt holes? Id really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Mike

I'm sure it will fit, they are identical machines.

They are Hardly identical machines. Basic design? yes. Iidentical? Not a chance. There are a LOT of differences.
To get a idea if the rack will fit, go to partsfish.com and look up the grab bars and see if the part numbers are the same for both machines. If they are then you have your answer. If they are different part numbers the rack may still fit, but you will need measurements to be sure.

i looked on service honda, and the 185s is 81200-958-671 and the 200s is 81200-vm4-770.
Ill look at partsfish right now. By the way the pictures look, the 200s has a little bend at the end of the bar whereas the 185s's is straight. I looked at the 250sx's bar, and it has the little outward bend like the 200s
Part numbers on partsfish
200s - 81200-vm4-000
185s - 81200-958-670
250sx - 81200-ha6-000
the only difference between the 200s and 250sx part numbers is the build code. PRM makes a 6 pack rack for the 250sx. Would those build code numbers make a difference?
Can anyone with a 250sx take the needed measurements for me? Id really appreciate it.
THanks for all of your help,
Mike

I meassured my 81 185s and from the center of the bolt to the center of the bolt is very close to 3.5". The flat portion of the bar that mounts to the frame on both sides is 9.5" across. Hope this helps!

GT, thank you.
I just measured the 200s grab bar.
The front holes were about 10 1/2 inches across
The rear holes were about 10 inches across
and it was about 3 1/2 inches between the middle of the holes on the grab bar.
It seems the 185 would fit, but the two pieces that attach to the frame are straight. The ones on teh 200s have a 1/4-1/2 inch bend in them on each side, because the front mounts on the frame protrude a little more than the rear mounts.
So in essence, a 185s grab bar wont fit because of the protursion in the 200s frame. Now i need to know if any other bars would fit. I think the 250sx might, because it also has that little protrusion. Can anyone help me out with this?
By the way it looks on prm's site...the pictures look like the 250sx's bar is a little wider, but still has that taper. I could probably buy some spacers and make it work, or just use some washers as spacers. I would like to get the dimensions first though. 250sx bar is on the left, 185s is on the right...the measurements on teh 250sx bar are the needed measurements for my 200s.
I appreciate everyone's replies, and thanks again.

here's some pics. Looks about 3 1/2 in. give or take. and about 11 in. across. I used used a 6pack rack off an 84 R on my 200x. With a lil tweakin I'm sure you can make most anything fit. ;)

chris...that looks almost identical to my current grab bar. If anything, its half an inch wider, which is nothing at all a few washers couldnt fix.
I'll order it soon, and let you know the results.
I owe you one chirs...thank you very much.
Everyone else, thanks, and ill let you guys know how i make out. On those part numbers...the 250sx and 200s numbers are identical, except for the build code. Does this mean they are exactly the same parts?
Thanks,
Mike

I was just about to run out and check but i'm glad that chris posted his cuz mine is welded to the frame, i assume it was victim of a wheelie gone bad and was " tacked " back on .. lol........
Would those 6 pack racks with a tank full of fuel not make the bike kinda wheelie happy ?

well figure a 5 gallon jug of gas is like 40 pounds...that isnt too bad.
The bike isnt going to be used that much, just to drag a local softball field, and make for me to mess around with once in a while.
The gas might make a difference, but i have trouble trying to wheelie it as it is. I mean if i rev it up and dump it itll go, but if im goign in second and gun it, it wont do anything unless im hanging off of the back of the bike.
Thanks everyone,
Mike
