Hi I just picked up a 2000 kawasaki bayou 300 that has a smoking problem. The previous owner said that the lower end was just done last season and when he did have it running it smoked a lot. I asked him if it was blue and he said that it was white smoke and he said that he thinks it needs a top end. I received it not running. I had to reset the cam timing because the chain tension screw was never adjusted and it jumped time. I adjusted the valves and got it running.
Man he wasn’t kidding filled up the yard with white smoke in no time.
My question is blue is rings, what would make it smoke white?
Would this be valve guides?
Any opinions would be appreciated
Thanks Big D

White is usually water in the gas. Blue is oil.

I haven’t cleaned the carb yet but the tank was empty and fresh gas was added that’s what has me questioning about the white smoke. I thought I read someone’s post about white smoke but I can’t seem to find it.

Thanks I plan to pull the top end . Didn't want to have to do it but it makes sense to open it up and see what I have left to work with. The party I got it from said that he had the top end done recently Thats why I was hopeing it would be a easy fix.

Maybe the rings are no lined up right they have to be staggered by spects. Question for you the 4 xr 75s you have how much for them.

Might be running really lean.
