Check the engine run switch and all wires.

First off, Welcome to the web site! We hope you enjoy it! We need a lot more information, to help us get a better grip on what your problem could be.

What all have you done up to this point?
Have you checked the exciter coil?
Have you disconnected all the non essential wires and checked for spark?
Have you checked to make sure everything is plugged in correctly?
Have you looked for any broken wires?
ect, ect,

The more information you can give us, the more we can eliminate certain things. I am sure one of us can pin point the problem, but we need to know where your at ( as far as checking stuff ), so that we can have you check other things.
Thanks
Howdy

Hey just wanted to chime in with what Howdy said. I replaced the exciter coil installed a new one and got the same resistance as the old one. Then I tried to check resistance on the cdi and it had no readings at all. Put in a classified for a cdi and Howdy got me on the right track by telling me to start checking all the wiring for continuity. Somewhere between unplugging the headlight wiring connector at the case and messing with the wiring harness under the gas tank near the cdi box I ended up getting my 83 185s started and had a nice ride. Now i just need to get into the wiring a little further and replace fix etc and hopefully get this thing over the top. I did alot of reading in the archives on the 185s and did alot of checking with no results before I got some good advice. Welcome to this board, Lots of good knowledge and people, and hope you get your trike running.

Its almost always the wiring connectors. The CDIs and coils rarely fail.

dude my 185s wouldnt spark for some reason and it ended up that there was water and muddy crap in the magneto and the stator. try spraying that with carb and choke cleaner or engine bright and dry it with an air compresser. You can also scrub the flywheele and get the gunk off
