OK guys, get ready for some new guy questions: My project bike, which is an 83 185s frame, is this the same frame as a 200s or 200m? What motors will be a direct bolt in with this frame besides the 185 engine. I like the idea of a 200x engine with a kick start, would this work? Also, if I was to switch to a different engine would the motor mounts from my original frame work on the donor motor? See, I told you these would be new guy questions. Thanks all.

the 200s an d 185s frames are not identical, the same with the 200m and 200x. The motor will drop into them though. I dont think you can drop a 200m into a 200s/x/185s because of the electric starter will hit the frame.
Im not sure if you could drop a 200x motor into a 185s frame. Maybe someone else could help you out. I'm pretty sure the top end motor mounts are the same, but im not sure about the bottom ones.

i thought you could take a 200s and put it in a 200x and have an autox. 200s and 185s are the same motors just there bore size is different.

the 185s and 200s engines and frames are interchangeable. You should be able to put a 200x engine into a 185s\200s engine, but why? With no suspension it would be pretty lame. And the 185s\200s frame has no provision for disc brakes. A more common mod is a 185s\200s engine into a 200x frame. Someone here on the boards had mad the rear brake pedal assembly to use for the 200x frame also. The only advantage to a 200x frame besides the disc brakes and a clutch, is the suspension, and you can find suspension frame setups if you keep your eyes open. The only factry listed difference between the 185s and the 200s was the torque, 200s listed as having more. The HP ratings were the same and the 185s was listed as having a higher compression ration than the 200s. The early 185s had a manual decompression release lever, and the later 185s and all 200s had a cable operated decompression release.

First off the 185s and 200s are similar but their frames are NOT interchangeable.
As for bolt in engines for your 185s frame you have the 185s, 185, 200, 200s, 200x (the kicker may get in the way but the mounts are the same). The 200m has its electric starter mounted on the front of the engine, you may be able to squeeze the engine in by denting the frame a little but I don't know for sure if it will fit or not. There are also the Chinese engines on eBay that should bolt in along with the XR200-185 dirt bike engines that bolt in but all those engines have rear kicking kick starters that will hit the rear fenders. As for using a 200x engine I also have to ask why, the best part about a 200x is the suspension and brakes. I would suggest getting your trike going then deciding what type of riding you are going to do and what machine will be best for it.

All the info is appreciated guys, thanks. I guess my reasoning for thinking about putting a 200x motor in this 185s frame is the clutch. Having owned about 20 or so dirtbikes a manual clutch just seems natural. Same goes for the kick start on the X motors compared to a pull start on the other 200 models... guess I'm just used to it? After checking out the 200 motor a bit more closely that came with the frame (In a box) its cases are cracked in a few spots. Also broken off studs at the exhaust flange, no pull start, etc. Thats no big deal as it was the chasis I wanted. So the door is wide open for any motor to be used......... ????????? :wondering :wondering :wondering
