Today was the first harescramble this year. Since they had poor turnout in the quad classes last year they are not running pro class this year :cry: .
There was only 6 quads today so we ran with the dirtbikes. The track is 3.2 miles long with lots of sharp turns a couple small jumps one area where you can open it up completely for about 200 yards and they ran the track clock wise today:wondering . There was me on my 05 Troy Lee Predator pipe and intake. High school aged kid on a stock Z400. Couple guys in there lower 20's ran as a team, the better rider rode a piped yfz the other guy was on a 660 raptor with +2 a arms, works shocks, pipe. 2 other guys ran yfz's both were running 12.5:1 GYTR kits that made them true 450's, one had works shocks, both were running N-Motion pipes (loudest damn pipes I have ever heard) they got what they asked for, the pipe that would give the most power with the loudest noise they said they didn't know they were gonna be that loud. These guys were father and son but raced seperatly, I would say the dad was mid to upper 40's the boy was 25ish I would say.
They started the dirtbikes then we started a minute or 2 later. I got a terrible start and was next to last. The Z400 took the lead. I ran in that position for 1/4 lap then got passed. I ran in that position for a complete lap. We were into the slow bikes and were having trouble passing them. Finally a couple of the quads up front got around 2-3 slow bikes. I could see the kid on the Z400 and I would say he was 100 yards in front of the pack of quads. At the begining of the third lap I was in 2nd place behind the Z400 he had got into a couple slow bikes and couldn't get around them. I finally got him passed about 3/4 the way through the 3rd lap, when I passed him a yfz came right along with me. I ran in 1st for 2 laps I think. I totally messed up a corner and he passed me, at that point I had arm pump so bad it was unreal. I followed him for another lap I was right on his butt. He was part of the team. He switched off with the guy riding the raptor. The raptor guy cut me off in the switching area. I had no choice but to back out of it. Right after the switching area is the long sweeping straight away with a small jump I hit the jump WOT 5th gear and passed the raptor and took the lead back. At that point I got a good lead on him maybe 50 yards. He ran 1 lap and switched back off to the yfz guy. He made a damn good run on me and caught up for a bit. He ran 2 laps by the end of the second lap I was a little ways in front of him again. He switched off with the raptor guy and he never did get close to me. I finished 1st the team guys finished 2nd and the Z400 took 3rd not sure who finished where after that. By the 5-6th lap of the race I was just bouncing all over the seat, arm pump was killing me.
This was my first race on the Predator. I have got to say I am 100% happy with this quad. Next race I will stiffen up the rear shock a little I hope that will help keep the front end down I will also loosen up the front end a bunch. I could pass any quad on the straight aways which really surprised me with the mods some of the YFZ's had. The kid on the Z400 really impressed me. That Suzuki could corner better then any of us, he just didn't have the power or suspension to run that hard for an hour nonstop. He did have a complete set of Razr tires which he was bragging on helping his machine corner better.
